Hi! How are you doing now? I hope you passed the Exit Exam. Anyways, I just wanted to ask you a few things about New England Tech. I am also planning to take the LPN Program 1. Do u need to take a Placement Test? 2. What are the requirements in order to get into the Program. I am just concerned because I never experienced to get to shool here in the US, though I have a Bachelor's Degree in another field back in Asia. I'll be glad to hear from you. ;)

Hi I graduated from New England Tech. Dec. 05. Yes you need to take the NET, (The Nurse's Entrance Test) and if you pass you have an interview. The NET is not hard, it's basic math, algebra, ratios, english comp. The 15 month course is intense, M-F, you go through the summer, you begin clinical rotations within 6 weeks of starting. Good luck to you. Private message me if you have more questions or call the school and set-up an appointment to see the school.

Thank you so much! I will, if I have some more questions. Also, I wanted to congratulate you eventhough it's way too late now ;)

Specializes in pediatrics.

NEw England Tech has just changed its name to Lincoln Tech but I doubt that will fix this disorganized nursing program. If you are thinking of attending this school, DONT. HOnestly, the have no support system for students and are completely disorganized. The cannot hold on to instructors (I have had an instructor leave every semester since I've been there). They accept way too many students (they told everyone in my class that applied that their entrance exam scores were the best they had seen; however 1/3 of the starting class has failed out already...and they still have to pay the full amount of tuition). They do not have the resources or staff (you can never get a hold on financial aid, or get an appt, or get a call back from them, but if you owe money the school will certainly hound you). YOu must purchase your books at the school, you do not get reimbursed nor can you opt out of buying a book (even if you already own it). Previous classes taken elsewhere, whether you have college credits or not do not count towards your program. I had already taken anatomy & physiology, but had to take it again! Please think of another program first, the state has many LPN program at a much cheaper cost. Go to Connecticut League of Nursing and see your options.

Good Luck

Thank you so much about the infos. I think you are right about the calls not being returned. I called maybe twice asking for the course catalog that was 2 months ago and until now I haven't recieved anything. I even spoke to one of them and asked me a few questions and the lady told me if am I sure I can do it, because I got 2 kids and the class will be held 4 times a week. I mean, y the heck would she ask me that? It's sounds like a discouragement on my part, plus I don't understand y they couldn't send you the information ie. catalog, brochure?

I've had nothing but good experiences with NETI (Lincoln Tech) in Shelton. the first time I called, left a voice mail and it was returned within 15 minutes. I asked a ton of questions and the lady answered each and every one. I was on the phone with her for at least half an hour. I explained that I was fearful of taking the entrance test for fear of failing it (I never give myself any credit!). She enouraged me to take it, if I did fail they would give me the section that I needed work on and I could then take home a practice test and then come back and retest. I called a day or two after the initial call and again was treated well, my call was returned again within 15 minutes of me leaving a voice mail. And again the lady answered all my questions (and even answered some I had asked during the first call). She was so helpful and kind.

I took the test a week ago today. Not only did I pass the test, I got none wrong! I guess I should give myself more credit. I then scheduled my interview appointment. I went in on Monday for my interview and again, have nothing but good things to say about it. The lady doing the interview did ask about child care/work situations etc. They want to make sure that you can do it. She didn't come off as discouraging but more wanting to know that I knew what I was in for. To plunk down that amount of cash only to have to withdraw or fail out because with 2 kids and a job I couldn't handle it. I can understand the rational of the questions.

As for a catalog etc, since they switched from NETI to Lincoln, they didn't have the Lincoln Tech catalog since it was a recent change in name etc. But we were told that the new cataloges/papers would soon be in with the Lincoln Tech logo etc.

I spoke with Financial Aid quickly so I could get an idea of what kind of loans/grants I could get. But I do have another appointment in a few days to sit with FA to apply for the loans.

I have been told by many many nurses that the NETI school is awesome. IF you check the Connecticut Board of Nurses website you can see that in the 5 (6?) years that NETI has had a LPN class, each of their 3 campuses have had 100% pass rate on first time NCLEX-PN testers. Not too shabby! I also know of at least a dozen grads from the school (and quite a bit of current students) that they are an intense program but they do want you to succeed and go out of their way to help you.

I guess like with anything you can't please all the people all of the time. As for the very high price tag associated with the course, its so well worth it to me..no waiting list, no pre-reqs to take, none of the jumping through hoops to get in. And in 15 months, you graduate, sit for your NCLEX, pass, and can start your career while others wanting to get into State programs sit and wait..and wait..and wait ...I'll be licensed and working as some that are applying to get in now will just be starting school. Yeah to me the high price tag is very well worth it.

I personally cannot wait to start.

Sorry but I have to voice my opinion here.

I started this program back in August and am enrolled in the Night program at the New Britain Campus. I can second many of the thoughts and opinions that SueJara has voiced. Since August we lost one teacher, had a Bio midterm that was not properly prepared for which 3 people in the class passed and the remaining classes average was about a 50% . Needless to say this is the most disorganized school I have ever been to. The staff for evenings is totally new and disorganized. Oh yeah did I mention they told one student she failed out, then an hour later when she came back balling and hysterical, they said " Oh we made a mistake on your grades you didn't fail." We started with 62 students and now have 40 and we just got to mod 2. People with good grades have actually left to go to the state schools. Personally I am just gonna work through I am doing well this far so.....

One thing that really gets me is that if you have a question about anything or you find something wrong, the staffs answer is pretty much, "Well when you are taking your board exam you can't question them." There are however some very nice teachers and staff, dont get me wrong.

Just don't get fooled by this statement:

" IF you check the Connecticut Board of Nurses website you can see that in the 5 (6?) years that NETI has had a LPN class, each of their 3 campuses have had 100% pass rate on first time NCLEX-PN testers. Not too shabby!"

The reason for this is that by the time you get to mod 5, even though you started class with 60 class mates, you will end up with like 15. This is why their pass rate is so good, but they won't tell you that, they will let you see it yourself.

All comments made here are my personal feelings and thoughts based on my experience thus far in the EVENING Program.

A friend of mine in the day program said his program is much much more organized but they too have their griefs. Both me and my buddy have just decided to work our a**es off until the end so we can reach or goals and finally get the jobs we have wanted for so long.

Oh yeah I had the same great experiences before the program much like the post before mine.

You're in New Britian right..maybe the problems are strictly on the NB campus and/or the night classes? The people attending and who've graduated that I know all atteneded the Shelton campus for the day class. And all had nothing but good things to say. I guess I'll find out the hard way soon.

In regards to your statement about the pass rate for the NCLEX being because only 15-20 end up testing for the NCLEX..I have attended CC nursing and private University nursing and same goes for those schools...you start with tons of people and by the end, you are left with a select few. So its not strictly a NETI thing. My best friend went to WestConn and she had said that even though she started with like 65 people in class, only approx 25+/- finished to the end.

Also, since the entrance test is pretty much a cake walk..anyone with at least a 10th grade education can get in (and since you have to have a HS diploma or GED, you SHOULD have @ least a 10th grade education). BUT that doesn't mean those same people SHOULD be there..and when the classes get difficult, they fail out or bail out. A lot of people who start and don't finish do so because they think its an "easy" course, and an easy way to make good $. I've seen it tons of times in the different types of classes/courses I've taken. The State run LPN classes weed out those who most likely won't pass the course before classes start by starting out with the NET instead of the basic test that NETI gives . So NETI is starting out with more people who probably won't pass than the State schools are. Not to mention, NETI is a FOR profit company the State schools aren't. So NETI is going to take those who probably won't pass for one reason, the Almighty Dollar, if those people they let in don't plan on giving it their all, studying hours on end, etc then they fail out..and NETI still makes a profit. I plan on working my a** off, like I have with all the other college courses I've taken, and do my best. And hopefully, fingers crossed, I will graduate, take the NCLEX and pass.

Anyway, I respect everyone's opinions, since you are all presently attending you know what you are dealing with. I was just saying that I personally have had nothing but good things from my dealings with them thus far and that the people I know echo those same things. Thats not to say that everyone should feel the same way. Obviously, not everyone does. I'll consider myself forewarned by you all and tread lightly when school does start to form my own opinions. Hopefully I can say, "its not like that for me" instead of you saying "we told ya so".:lol2:

I wish u luck Pixie and I am sure you won't ahve any trouble, by then the staff should be all set.

Unfortunately my situation isn't an isolated one. I know for a fact that the Hamden campus also had many of the same if not more of the problems we had.

I also agree the entrance tests are easy, I got a 100 on the math and 3 wrong on reading and comp. Personally I am doing well and am not really worried, as long as you keep your head in the game and stay focused you will do well. Don't let the drama of other get in to your head, as that is where most of the people in my program get stuck and they lose focus and start to get bad grades.

Good luck bud. :pumpiron:
