Getting ready to apply: CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2013

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

Good morning!

I am a current LPN working on pre-requisites for application to the CCC-NP for Fall 2013!

I'm taking most of my courses at Holyoke Community College and hope to transfer to Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

So far I have completed:

Nutrition 101- A

English Comp and Lit (6 credit course)- A

Biology w/ Lab- A

Math 085- A

This summer I am taking:

Intro to Psych

Math 095

This fall I am taking:A&P I

Chemistry

Computer Apps

Human Development

During the winter intersession I will take:Sociology

Spring 2013:

A&P II

Statistics

Microbiology

Public Speaking

On my list of things to do:

-Attend Nursing Information Session

-Take TEAS-V

I plan to continue after my ASN to my BSN from Elms College so I'm working on required courses for that program as well.

I look forward to getting to know others who are going through the process! Enjoy the day!

BTW, I started at St Vincent's in the Summer 2011 session taking my Chem class. I was able to transfer my English, Psych 1 & II, sociology and world religons (yup, catholic school requires that as a 'core' class).

In the Fall 2011 I took A&P I, College Algebra and Ethics (after successful completion of the A&P I had met all the pre-reqs require by my school to take the Charter Oak online class).

Winter Intersession I took Microbiology.

The Spring 2012 semester I took A&P II, the Charter Oak online course and my 'home school's 1 credit course.

Summer 2012 I'm taking World History to meet my humanities elective. At this point, I've done ALL the non-nursing courses for the ADN program and can fully concentrate on only taking the nursing classes. I'm tossing around the idea of taking a couple more courses during our second summer session to apply toward the RN to BSN courses I'll have to do once I become an RN.

I begin the nursing classes in late August 2012 and have an anticipated grad date of May 2013.

Hi CT Pixie - Where did you take Microbiology? I'm looking to take Microbio during Winter Intersession.

Thank you!

Hey everyone! Took the Teas V last week and got 85.3%. Cant decide whether or not to retake it or not and just apply now. Wondering if you think that score is competitive enough?

I think that's an awesome score! It should say your percentile on your report.

Thanks, yea I see that, 96th percentile. Talked to an advisor the other day and decided to take it one last time. Doesn't hurt right? It's the only thing I really have control over at this point. It seems like Feb 1st is right around the corner.

Hi guys! I am very excited for you to apply to the CT-CCNP program! I was accepted for this Fall, and my first semester is almost over. Please let me know if you have any questions, I'm more than happy to help! Only think I can't help is with the LPN-RN bridge. Good luck to you all! Soon you know if you made it in! Good luck!

@motosteph: that's a great score! Mine was lower and I got in this fall! may I ask what your GPA is? and btw, I thought you posted some comments on last years thread, didn't you? I thought I remembered you.

Nursewannabe86: Congrats on getting in and completing your first semester! I was on last years thread. Boy what a rollercoaster the whole application process was. I ended up getting waitlisted at 44, this year my gpa is a 3.2 and i got an a in a&p. So we'll see what happens. I will definitly take you up on that offer for advice. Did you fill out fafsa? And if you did, how soon before school started did you know what your aid package was? When was the first deposit due? I just know that if i wait to find out if i get in or not to start the financial aid process the ship will have sailed. I know i'll have a bunch more questions when i fill out the application just cant think of any now!!

I have about a 3.7 gpa, A- in a&p so far, but I only got a 76 on my teas :(It is so great to have this community here!Is it possible to still be competitive with this teas score? Thank you.

Toonsis: your gpa and a&p grade are great! I think it sounds competitive. Try taking the Teas again, you have until the application deadline. I spoke to an advisor after i took the teas and she said it wouldnt hurt to keep retaking it. They accept your highest score.

@motosteph: I'm sorry you got waitlisted, I didn't remember what happened to you last year, all I remembered was that I saw your name on the last year's thread. Did you take the TEAS this year again and you scored a 85? how come you didn't get accepted last year? Was your TEAS score lower? I'm glad you're trying to get in this year again, I hope you'll get accepted! btw..I don't know anything about financial aid, I'm paying out of pocket, sorry. You should go and ask the financial aid people early, so that you fill out all the needed applications. I remember last year some people almost missed the deadlines for financial aid. Good luck and keep me posted!

@toonsis: your statistics sound great! What college are you applying to? I remember from last year the advisors were saying that 80 is the new 100 score on the TEAS V, it is more difficult than the older version. I would retake it and see if you can score higher, but don't drive yourself crazy! your 3.7 GPA is very good! let me know if you have any other questions.
