Getting ready to apply: CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2013

I just found this site so I figured I'd throw my stats out there. I applied to NVCC as my #1 and GWCC as my #2. I haven't heard anything back yet, and mycommnet still says the standard "all prerequisites etc... have to be in by February 1"

My Stats:

NGPA will be around a 3.5

AP I grade is an A-

TEAS V score was an 84.7

I'm hoping that I get in this semester as I want to move south ASAP when I finish my Bachelors. What's everyone else got so far?

I'm interested to hear from people who got in. The rep at nvcc told me that the average accepted student gpa last year was 3.6 ap grade a- and teas v score a 73. I don't know if she just gave me these to "blow up" the school numbers or what. 3.6 average seems really high to me. The other 2 would seem about right though. My gpa is a little below the average that she gave me so I'm a little nervous. So using percentages this would mean that roughly 2/3rds of the ranked seats had a gpa over 3.6 which would mean the bottom 1/3 +the random selection were lower. But a 3.6 after random selection, which I'm guessing is lower than about 3.4~3.5 seems a little high. Unless there's a lot of people applying with 3.8+ gpas. A 3.6 average ranked seat would seem much more plausible. I mean most people I've talked to that are applying are in the 3.3-3.6 range along with myself.

I also wish I found this program as my math requirement right now is calc II which is way above anything they require. Or, I wish that they would levy that high over someone who took stats. The higher level class should rank you high in my honest opinion. Otherwise there is no need to strive for anything more than the minimum of what they require.

I cannot believe that the application period is over for this year! When I was waitlisted last year I thought that the 2013 application deadline was so far away. In retrospect the year went by really quickly. I applied to NVCC and my stats this year are 3.23 GPA, 85.3% TEAS, and A in A&P. I hope that this is good enough. Since they changed the requirements this year I think that it will be more competitive but that is just me guessing. Fingers crossed and good luck to everyone. Think good thoughts while they are looking over all of our files.

I think the reason they changed it is because people caught on that they could take a lot of easy classes to pad the gpa. With the current selection process, you're judged on classes that are applicable to the field. With all classes you could technically be a b in AP1 and take a bunch of easier classes and your gpa would still be 3.6-3.7 where as now that b will drag you down a lot since there are only 5 or 6 classes counted in the ngpa

That would make sense as to why the gpa calculation was changed. I think that the way the gpa is calculated this year makes it more fair. However, do you think the average gpa of the applicants this year are higher or lower than last year. I wonder how this changes the competition this year. That may be impossible to determine, I just feel like any insight will curb my obsession of knowing whether i'll be accepted or waitlisted.

I don't understand how the schools can say "3.6 and higher got in" because your rank is not solely based on GPA...only half is...which means another half is based on A&P and Teas. Again, like you pointed out, there is always random selection. I also wonder if they looked back at this after people gave up their spots. A lot of people apply to multiple programs, and are accepted to multiple programs, so they usually give up their spots. From what I understand, it is typical that Naugatuck ends up calling the first 10-15 people on their wait listed to offer spots after others have given their up.

I have a 3.26 GPA, 87.3 on Teas and "A" in A&P. I know my GPA is not as strong as it could be, but my other scores are strong. I am nervous that I won't get in, but there is nothing I can do now. I am trying to wait patiently (if that is even possible!!!) LOL

I think it will be impossible to tell. Simply because this is the first year of doing it this way. I think that this way is a much better way of judging. Simply because it is what is required to get in and nothing else. I could see the average gpa being about the same. But just having new people getting in that did better in the required classes, rather than the gpa padders. I emailed nvcc to get some info but nothing yet. Just asked how many people applied and when we will get notification.

50% is a lot. I'm guessing they do some type of point scale out of 200 or something. So say for you you would get 81.5 from gpa. 43.6 from teas and 50 from apI giving you 175.1 out of 200 points. And then cut that in half to get out of 100 points. So 87.55

For me would be 176.2 out of 200. Or 88.1 for me. I'm guessing something like this at least.

I got an email today from nvcc congratulating me on acceptance to the college. General studies. Not nursing program. Here's a funny bit though. It says it was sent march 5 at 520pm. It's 252 pm right now on march 5. :roflmao:

Ok, so this wait is killing me, so lets get to know each other!!! Where are all of the Naugatuck applicants??? I think there are only a handful or so of us on here...if you are a NV applicant and have been "lurking" this thread, please post and introduce yourself!!! We may be classmates in the near future!

I am nervous because two things (composition and computers) are still "missing" from my checklist. Yet they have my transfer records and the results of my computer exemption test. Is anyone else having this issue? I'd feel better it if it wasn't just me. Debating going down to CCC to bug them. I feel good about my stats, so long as they process things correctly: 88.5 on Teas, A in A&P and 4.0 GPA. I took the computer test to cancel out a C from 12 years ago when I took Intro to Programming. It's so stupid that they take Programming as an equivalent to an Intro to Software Applications- they are not the same. I would have retaken the class but my advisor assured me the exemption test would be enough. But now I am nervous about it!!

You should email (the lady that sent out the emails to our college email regarding nursing status) and ask her how you can find out if they have received it. She will reach out to the college for you and respond to you. I think at this point the college's get annoyed with us if we email or call them because they are busy. I had emailed her and she got back to me within a day. If I were in your shoes, I would be nervous because they are going through and eliminating people who haven't turned everything in.

Oh, and I had tried the ctccnpadmission email previously, and my emails were returned, so I emailed *****....just FYI!
