Exp RN Moving To Torrington - Where To Work?

U.S.A. Connecticut

Specializes in ICU and Dialysis.

Hello All,

I'll be moving to Torrington in Febuary 2009 and was wondering which are the better hospitals to work in the western part of the state and/or Hartford area. By that I mean, which have a better working environment for newcomer's (I'm not a new nurse - I have 14 years ICU experience) and oreintation practices. Also looking to transition to ER from ICU and wanted to know anyone's recommendations.

Which places should I stay away from - but I'm not interested in "I heard..." only first hand experiences please.

And finally, any idea of what I should be asking salary wise?

Thanks in advance,

John S.

Moving to Torrington in February?? :chuckle have fun with that!

My sister lives in Torrington and we always joke around Halloween time that we'll see her in April.

Reason for that is its always snowing in Torrington (or so it seems) when I get an inch of snow she gets 8. If we get rain, she gets a snow. (i'm only 35 minutes from her in the Southwestern corner). If we get a snow storm, she gets blizzard like conditions.

As far as hospitals, I really only have "I'm told" experiences. I know that the hospital right in Torrington is Charlotte Hungarford, not too far from Torrington is Waterbury Hospital, St Mary's Hospital (also in Waterbury).

You'll be seeing a lot of smaller community hospitals up that way unless you head toward Hartford.

I'm not sure if you are originally from CT or not, but if your not here is a nice list of what looks to be most of the hospitals in CT. Maybe it would help looking at some of the hospital websites to see what benefits they offer, pay scales etc. I'm sure you could even email with any questions you might have. I hope this helps some.
