CT tech lpn program

I just got accepted to the New Britian campus and I'm starting in June. I live a little far from the campus and im curious about clinical sites. All they can tell me is that its within a 40 mile radius. Do they give you a list of sites your going to or just when the time comes they assign you to a site? I'm very curious about this before I make a firm decision. :confused:

the reason they can't tell you is they don't know themselves. once they closed the program other nursing schools came and took their spots, so now they have to desperately attempt to get back into those spots or try new places *and thats not easy as it sounds* as all the good places are taken and all the others don't want students or are very far away. I think you should do it, it's only 18mths, even in the nursing program (rn) they tell you within an 1 of the school site for clinicals.

I'm gonna do the program anyway. I'm very excited!! I thought the program is 12 months or are you doing the evening program? How many students are in your class?

Hello NursingStudentCT!

I'm doing the program right now at Lincoln Tech in New Britain, CT. We started in March so we are one month into it. The program is 12 months, used to be 18, then they made it 15, now they compressed it to 12.

It's an extremely fast moving program, at least one exam a week, sometimes 2 on top of homework assignments, reading, clinical, lab... but I'm sure you've heard all about it.

Feel free to ask me any questions. When you start, I will be in MOD II so chances are I'll see you around campus. There are 4 "Mods" that are 3 months long each.

For clinical, the sites I know of are in West Hartford, Southington, Bloomfield, Hartford, and Waterbury. Where are you located?

I'm definitely sure this is what i want to do. i went to regular college for about 2 yrs and was on an RN program waiting list for a yr and a half and I didnt want to be out of school. I'm very excited. I really appreciate the info!! its very helpful.

how are the teachers? and how many students are in your class? I heard at porter and chester, students easily fail out of the program, have you noticed that with the program?

Was the RN program you were on the waiting list for Gateway? I hear they have a great program.

So far the teachers are all great. Every teacher is different and teaches things their own way. It really is a matter of adapting to their teaching methods. The key is to study every second of every minutes of every hour you have available. There is a lot of material to absorb in a ridiculously small amount of time with this program.

I too, have previous college experience. I got my Associate Degree in Science at Capital Community College and so far this is way different. It much more tight-niched than college ever was. I feel closer to my fellow students and more intimate with the instructors, especially when you start clinical rotations, you all get used to each other.

Have you taken a lot of science classes in college? Bio, Chem, A&P? If you have already taken those, the program will be A LOT easier since most of it will be a review, that's how it's been for me. It's been a great opportunity to get high grades on the early exams.

Our class is actually really big, 80-90 people. They ended up splitting us up into 2 groups so it's not so overwhelming. Only a few people after the first month have left, so it hasn't been too bad yet, but they are very strict with attendance so my guess is people will start dropping due to attendance issues.

The LPN program is such a great stepping stone program to get into nursing. Although it's perfectly fine to stay as an LPN if that's what you want. Congratulations on your decision! Good luck!

wow 80-90 people? that seems to be alot compared to the other schools i checked out. some schools only allowed 20 people into their program. I have a meeting on monday with them so i'm going to see how that goes.

Once I finish with the LPN program I'm bridging over to RN. I'm excited overall. :)

Hello my fellow ct tech lpn student,

I know I've been away for a while but we are on spring vacation this week so I have some free time. How is everything going for you guys? We (hartford) started our clinicals from March 15th. It is really good to get the hands on experiences. I am already a CNA, but I work in an assisted living. Where my clinical is, is totally a different environment than what I am used to. The type of residents are different, but I truely enjoy it.
