Connecticut Community Colleges - Applying for 2014

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

I've read through last year's version of this thread 100 times, so I thought I'd start a new one. I'm planning to apply for NCC's 2014 program. I'm taking A&P I right now (A- midterm grade, hoping to make that an A!) and will need to do the software applications class online in the winter session, so I won't be able to submit my app until final grades are out for that. Hopefully I won't be cutting it too close to the Feb 1st deadline! I'm taking my TEAS on November 18th.

Who else is applying? Where are you in the application process? Post your TEAS scores and GPA stats if you know them! My nursing GPA will be almost a 3.8 with an A- in A&P and an A in CSA105, but I dropped out two semesters in a row in 2006 (one semester medically excused but still on my transcript, the other no excuse, just screwed up being 19 and not very serious about my education at that time) I hope those hiccups won't count against me too much, luckily none of the classes I was taking at the time applied to the nursing program.

If you go onto the ncc website under course, go to nursing, and click on books required for nur 101. One is a bundle that cost $380.00 , one is a math for meds book and the other is a sim chart book. I only bought the bundle for now, it has 6 items in it.

I am also taking mirco this summer and can't wait for it to be over!! :)

Hope I helped on finding the book list.

Oh where are you taking micro??

I have 2 more weeks to go... can't wait to be over!!!! Só much to memorize...

I'm taking micro at Naugatuck, it is a lot to know so quick! I also have 2 weeks left. :)

Hello! Congrats to you all!!

I have a few questions for all of you who have went through this process! I'm having a hard time getting in contact w/ Gateways adviser.

Was the computer class calculated into NURSING gpa?

What was the computer proficiency exam like?

Any other students who are applying from a non community college? How was that process ?

Thanks in advance!!

I believe the Gateway process is the same as NCC.

All the classes that are considered pre requirements for nursing will count on your Nursing application GPA.

The proficiency test, you mean the TEAS V? It wasn't ridiculously hard, but it wasn't easy either. I recommend you to take once just to get a feeling, and then see what are the areas where you need improvement. Also, buy the manual! It's very helpful.

I hope this is helpful :)

Good luck.

Thanks Viv, my wedding was fantastic and the honeymoon was even better ;) I just got all of my paperwork back from the doctor's office today, had to have a mumps booster, so by the skin of my teeth I should be able to upload it in time haha. Anyone pick out shoes yet?? I have no idea what to get, I hear Danskos are good but they're expensive and clunky looking to me.

I have to take Micro as a hybrid in the fall...I hope it's not going to be too much to handle but the summer courses wouldn't have worked for me. Tell me honestly guys, am I gonna die?? Anyone who's taken it at NCC?

Great MissCris!!

About the shoes I'm buying white leather sneakers. It's the most comfortable and less expensive choice for me.

I'm just finishing micro this week, and I'll tell you... it's a lot of information to memorize. ... I'm taking it hybrid, so aaallll the lecture portion has to be done on my own ....

It's doable, but it won't be easy ;)

The computer class is calculated into your nursing GPA. If you're talking about the exam to test out of taking the class, I wouldn't recommend it unless you use a LOT of Microsoft Office programs, often and in many capacities. I do administrative work every day and consider myself very computer literate but a lot of the small things in Excel and PowerPoint I would have had no clue how to do without taking the class. I took it online in a 2 week winter session and it was really easy and a nice way to boost my GPA a little.

I think I'm going to do the same thing and get sneakers and some good ol' Dr. Scholls inserts haha

I'm cutting my hours at work in half when school starts and planning on staying at the school all day on Mondays and Tuesdays to study, hopefully I'll have enough time to dedicate to Micro. Time will tell!
