Can't find a LPN job for a new grad in Connecticut

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

I am a recent LPN grad in Connecticut, I passed my NCLEX August 8th and I have been filling out applications, dropping off my resume, sending out cover letters and no call backs. I am getting depressed because I have not gotten one call back. I feel like I wasted my time in school. I am just wondering if it is/was this difficult for any other new grads to get a job and how did you land your first job. I really am willing to take anything right now and work my way up, just need an opportunity....

Depressed New LPN

Specializes in Emergency.

I am a PCT and in Nursing school...from what I hear your best and possibly only bet will be with LTC. It seems hospitals will simply not hire LPN's...good luck...and it seems like LTC facilities are always hiring LPN's.

95% of the places I went to are LTC that is actually the area I would like to work in, however everyone wants 1 year or more of experience and other than my clinicals I have none :-(...thanks for your reply ad good luck as well...just wondering if I made a mistake....

In the interim while looking why not sign on for flu clinics. Gives you a bit of 'experience' and some money in your pocket as you look for employment.

Thanks pixie...

HI CT Pixie!! Do you have any advice on how to get into flu clinics? The impression im getting is that its too late now because I have called all the Maxim offices i could find in CT and theyre all full so far. Do u know any other way to get involved? I cant seem to find anything through google and dont know any nurses who've done the flu clinics. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you looked into jobs at the UConn Health Center? I know they hire LPNs so maybe that could be an option for you?

I had gone thru Maxim when I did the flu clinics part time on my days off from the LTC facility. I know there are others but of course the names escape me. sorry.

Thats ok! Thank you for responding! Yeah the only other place i found was community health network. Them and all the Maxim offices said they're all set for this year though. Lol aggghhh i need to find something! I'm hoping all my walk-in applying will pay off in the long run, and maybe ill receive a call over the next month or so. Honestly I had no idea it would be so hard to get hired. My expectations for pay are low, and I would be happy to work 2nd and/or 3rd shift. Oh well, THANK GOD FOR ALL NURSES!!!! All the advice I've received on here has been so helpful! THanks CT Pixie! good luck to you!

Keep trying. Someone will call you back =) Genesis in Wallingford(Skyview) and Meriden site has had postings on careerbuilder. They're looking for per diem lpns and I know they've hired new grads before.

Also, benchmark companies(assisted living) hire new grads. Keep checking Craigslist, indeed, and careerbuilder. Try for skilled nursing.
