BHSN: Applying to Bridgeport Hosp for Fall 2013

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

Hi All,

I thought I would start a new topic for those of us who are planning to apply to BHSN's Nursing program for the Fall 2013.

I will get things started with my stats (which aren't great...but not too terrible!):

TEAS - 78% (planning to re-take)

GPA - 3.2 (currently)

I also applied to GWCC and Southern, so hopefully I will get into one of these programs!

What I did not anticipate when applying to Housatonic was the immunizations. I had been out of school for some time so I need to get all my vaccinations. The MMR vaccination is a two shot deal with the second shot a month or so after the first. So luckily I was able to get registered on time, but it was a close call. They don't let you register until you get that clearance.

Also, it took about 3 weeks or so for them to accept my transfer classes.

Thanks for the comments guys. I just had to get that outta my system, but I'm back on track. I'm not giving up, and I know if I make it, I will be challenged in tougher ways than this....Bring it on! We're ready!

Jessica77 I called them Monday, and they told me to set up an account on their website, and registry on April 2nd. (Because I'm already studying in a Community College (NCC) I didn't have to pay a free for this account set up). Now, this shot thing that MarcusPaxton mentioned is true! NCC requires the same thing when you apply to be a college student (taking more than 11 credits... i think...)

elizabeth76 Thank you!!! I looked up online and the book seems to be this one! :)

But now I have another problem... My boss didn't allow me to leave earlier every day on summer, to take those A&P classes.... I'm sooooooo upset... I don't know what to do... I really wanted to finish A&P before the NUR classes started :(

aRoJoCT Hang in there!!! Believe in yourself! A lot of rocks are going to cross our way (like this big one on my summer), but we should never give up!!! You are strong (as you said: mom, wife, friend, sister) and you will do it! :)

I recently applied to BHSN. My application went into review on Feb 4th and I have still not received a letter. A few students in my class have already been accepted so I am getting really nervous. Does anyone know how there acceptance process works? Does it mean I wasn't accepted since I haven't heard yet? I am new to this forum so if anyone can tell me I would appreciate it cause I am seriously starting to panic!

KristenR: As MarcusPaxton would say....you should definitely call the school. If you've read most of the comments on this thread, you will see that some, or most of us have received a letter from the school with a username and password, with a link to a website that once you login, will tell you what your application status is. Whether it is that you are missing documents from your application file, your application is 'under review', or if you have been accepted (I'm not 100% sure if this one is viewable on the website). Anyway, I encourage you to give them a call. Sometimes, as others have said, they have receive so many applications, so it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. A quick phone call, will give them a sort of reminder. Good luck!

vivinursingstudent: Thank you so much for your sweet comment. It really made my day!

JaRoJoCT - you are welcome!

Now I have the dilemma.... Is it worth to keep my job for now, and take A&P while I'm already in the program? Or should I go ahead and find another job (less hours) during the summer, and take A&P out of way?

Oh God!!! It's just so much to decide right now.... I'm going nuts....

To:JaRoJoCT, Thank you for the advice I am going to call now.

vivinursingstudent: I am currently taking A@P1 at Housatonic this semester and plan to take A@P2 over the summer. A@P1 is hard because it is a lot of info to memorize. I am trying to get them out of the way before September in hopes that I get accepted to BHSN. If you are already accepted I would just get those classes out of the way so you only have to worry about the Nursing classes come the fall. Good Luck!

I agree with KristenR: If you are going to start nursing school in the Fall, why not get it out of the way. I took AP1 last semester and taking AP2 this semester. Both courses are hard because there are a ton of things you just have to remember and know off the top of your head. Our professor was telling us that when you start nursing school (he also teaches at one), the professors will expect you to know AP cold. There's no review. You have to know the body and how everything works.

Thank you guys! That is what I though.... I guess I'll have to give up on my job and my two little boys that I love as they were my kids :( but it is what it is...

Woohoo!!! Doing the happy dance! My application is finally 'under review'!
