What is the salary for c.n.a in ct ?


I am thinking of relocating from Los Angeles California to CT. I will like to know which area is good for me to work as a c.n.a and go to LPN school. I am already working here as a c.n.a I want to find out the salary for C.N.A out there for Nursing homes and private duty? I want to know if its also easy for me to get into LPN Program and what is the cost of the program in private school

Hello Senmarley, I am exactly in the same shoes as you are. I currently live in NC and I am relocating to CT in 4 weeks. I just came back from a 5 days trip to CT to check things out (drove thirteen hours to CT form NC) ,long drive ahnn!
Anyway my findings was really good people are so accomodating unlike where I am currently living. Its the New England feelings if you know what I mean.
Like you I am also considering attending LPN school. LPN program in private schools are not hard to get into but their fees are exorbitant.
But education is well worth any moneatary cost.
The cost of the program varies. Porter and Chester cost about 34000 in tuition plus you have to buy books and equipment.
The state LPN cost more less and affordable ,i dont have the figure in my head.
If I have more information ,I will post it.
However, why are you moving away from Cali. I hear that there are many options for nursing schools in California?
I wish you luck but Connecticut is really a good place to live based on my findings.

Thanks for taking yr time to reply. I really appreciate the info. Is the anyway I can send you a private e-mail. I really have a lot of questions to ask if its ok for you. I am leaving here because things are very slow here. Jobs are not as plenty as before. Also trying to be near family members. Do you have idea also how much they pay for c.n.a out there?

Hi,

To the previous posters - FYI, the cost currently for the State Technical/Vocational LPN Programs is approx. $5800 total (I added books & uniforms in the figure). The next time there will be a class starting for the state run LPN programs will be Jan. 2010 and there are some very good programs in CT that I know of: Bullard Havens Tech. in Bpt., Abbott Tech. in Danbury, Eli Whitney Tech. in Hamden, and Wright Tech in Stamford. I have a good friend who is a student currently at Wright Tech. Please really consider the state schools because the private schools are just outrageously priced which is just a shame. There is absolutely no reason you should pay $30K++ for an LPN education. Why put yourself in such financial debt just because you want to start a program in Sept. 09' vs. 4 months later?? Remember this, you would be paying the private LPN school loans back for over 25 yrs. which doesn't make any wise financial sense.

The rate for CNA's start at $13/hr. and can be much higher w/differentials added. I do know of 2 Nursing Homes in the Valley area that are looking for Temporary CNA's currently and are paying $20/hr. This is due to a labor disagreement w/the management and I believe some of the existing staff might be striking. Check out the Connecticut Post and you'll find the advertisements for these positions. Also, there is a huge need for live-in CNA's in Southern CT so that would be a great option too. Hope this helps!

I have the state forms with me and I am planning to send it soon.However I am also looking to the private schools. I understand they are costly, very very! I am just looking forward for something bettter. I applied to CT Comm college also for fall 09,(still expecting notification letter), but I realized that they are very competitive.

porter and chester in rocky hill, well they have other branches also and there is Lincoln tech formerly New England Tech, they are both easy to get into, but both full time days, usually M-Th from about 8-3, i believe some might do night class options bc i went to lincoln tech for a couple weeks and did night classes. They arent too bad with cost and you can get finanical aide. CNAs in CT work their butts off and get paid ****. Your best bet is to work for a pooling company...I worked for Maxim in East Hartford and they paid me $12-13/hr, u can tell them what type of jobs you want, but you'll be going to different nursing homes because it is a staffing company. If you work directly at a nursing home, you'll only be able to make around $9/hr, MAYBE 10 if youre lucky. You do all the work, and the nurses push a cart and get 30/hr. Id get to Nursing school asap!!
Ps-I know someone who is an LPN and works at a prison and made $100,000 last year working some overtime and weekends, so definitely worth the $20k school tuition!!

wow@ the statement nurses push a med cart and get 30 dollars an hour. Yes i do agree that cna's do a lot of work but nurses do more than just "push" a med cart. I must admit that i also had this perception of nurses. However, since i started nursing school last year i now realized how wrong i was. I am also currently a cna that is working at Riverside Rehabilitation Nursing Home in East Hartford and when i started 2 years ago there i was started at $13.50/hr and i am now getting $15.00/hr. I have worked through some of those home care agency and i thought that they paid pretty cheap.

Whatever you do, do NOT go to Lincoln Tech!! I went there for the same reasons you listed (easy to get into, not much of a wait) and it was by far the worst mistake I ever made...Not only is the cost exhorbanant but there is something in the contract that makes you liable for 25% of the tuition before the first mod even ends, and by the time you are done with Mod II, you are on the hook for 100% of the tuition whether you make it through the program or not. And more than half of the students don't.

Trust me on this one-I just wasted the last 8 months of my life working harder than I ever have in my life and getting treated like the dirt on the bottom of someones shoe in return. I'm seriously considering walking away- $34,000 in the hole and at the top of my class with nothing to show for it since their credits do not transfer anywhere because I'm so disgusted by the way they operate...Sorry to go off on a tangent, I just feel the need to warn anyone who asks about it!

Anyways, C.N.A. pay is decent, around $15 an hour in most places. Also, bear in mind that many facilities will actually help pay for you to get your nursing degree while you work there! I did clinicals at Southington Care Center and they have a great program like that for CNA's...
