Thanks orange57 and sbrn2008. I applied for the Backus Hospital program, back in Novemeber. Based on the online application status, I wasn't picked. I'm having the same expereince when applying to Yale. I actually called the HR person and got some feedback. The HR person just told me that it all depends on the unit I applied for, how many applicants applied and other factors, but to continue applying. I appplied for a grad nurse position. On Yale's website it posted the job and it described the high volume they are expecting for 2009 new grads. How could I be denied so quickly. Mind you I went to the open house they had last week. I was able to give my resume to managers. I hope something pans out, if not I guess I wil just have to try my chances out of state. i'm just really sad, frustrated and ****** off at the same time. I feel like wearing a t-shirt that says: I went to nursing school and passed my boards and all I have to show for it is my nursing school degree, my nursing license, and no job.

Try again at Backus and keep calling and leaving messages with the nurse recruiter (his name is on website www.backushospital.org) until he calls you back. I had to leave several, my last one saying I could wait for a return call for two days and then I would contact the VP of nursing. The next program isn't until June, so I don't know how long you want to wait, but it might be worth a try. I completely understand your frustration. I went through a depression of sorts too. Best wishes.

Congrats to those that have found a job!!!

I am currently still searching. I'm frustrated and at my wits end with the whole situation of being a registered nurse and not being able to find a job. It is like a slap in the face. I'm tired of not getting called for an interview,i'm tired of the hospitals rejecting applicants via their online accounts at the hospitals applied to jobs. i'm tired of calling and emailing and getting no feedback, or if I am able to get a hold of a live person, it is clearly they are repeating some type of scripted response. I graduated in May '08. It is now '09, it is to the point I feel like an extended new graduated. I've tried to polish up my resume as best as I can. It is disappointing that I was fired from my first nursing job. It is to the point I feel like my nursing degree and license is a waste of money.

I know the economy is in a bad place, but i'm tired of seeing commercials for nurings degrees and hospitals only advertising open houses for expereinced nurses. i'm tired of HR recuriters who have never worked as a nurse in their life, or have no hospital expereince, yet they are the screeners of hiring a nurse. I'm tired of hospitals advertising on tv why when people are sick should come to their hospitals. Half the time the hospital ads are more about the doctors and the new technology the place offers. I'm tired of seeing orientation time postings of only 6-8wks. At my previous employer, I had to take an arrthymia course, it was only 2 days, 4hrs each day and then an open book test the following week. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS SITUATION. Thank goodness I had enough sense to go buy an EKG interpretations book that had nothing but rhythm strips. Yet I got disgusted looks when i asked questions in class or when I was working on the unit.

I'm tired of clincal nurse educators who don't educate, but walk around in white lab coats and when you ask them a question their response "is it will come with time." I think that response needs to be banned. Yes I know things will come with time, but what happens when things don't come in the time the employer wants it to come to you, oh yeah, you get fired like i did for not progressing fast enough. i'm tried of the lame preceptors who obviously don't want be , but are only doing it because they were asked by management or they get preceptor pay. I had a precpetor who during the shift was at the secratary station cutting out halloween cut outs. I've also had precpetors when I asked for feedback on situations ,told me not to worry about it, but yet in front of management during meetings thought that was the time to tell me how to handle situations.

I'm just TIRED to the point I'm tired of being sick and TIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
