Was the new layout implemented for AD space?

While I'm not a fan of the new layout for the forum, I can learn to compromise and hopefully come around to at some point appreciate it. Aside from assimilating, was the idea behind changing the layout influenced by the ability to now stick a bunch of ads on the far right side of the screen right next to our posts? I see that there is now a large vertical space on the far right hand of the screen that can be alloted to sponsoring ads which is what a few other sites use in order to earn some cash. If that is the case, I say onward, for as money is always a great way to get a site to grow!

Unless, IMO, one is a paying member and is already using their own money to provide support to the site. Every other message board that I have ever been involved with does not bombard paying members with ads.

Honestly, I am perfectly happy to pay to support sites and communities that I frequent, such as allnurses. But frankly, if my viewing experience is going to be the same as a visitor who doesn't pay, then what is my motivation? Avatars? I don't think so.

Vbulletin is the format website developed on...this is a later version that we've progressed.... Many sites already running this version, we're late to upgrade site.

Ads are how we keep site free overall. Paying members do not see majority of ads except top banner....ad space is being reshaped different configuration.

We are still adding/tweaking features. Will take 1-2 weeks add all design content.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying that the ads are going to permanently take up one third of the horizontal viewing space, regardless of whether a poster is a paying member or not?

The whole screen doesn't fit on my computer screen -- and I can't find the controls to change that.

Also, the Quick Reply typing window is cut off on the right side. Even when I scroll over there, it is not visible. I have to "Go advanced to see half of what I type.

Why oh why do people change something that isn't broken? The old format was SO good, so user-friendly. This one just sucks. Sorry.

I'm also not following whether the page will be broken into thirds whether a person is a premiere member or not. It seems like your browser shouldn't really be related to that issue. If a person is a premiere member, they shouldn't even have a blank space by the side of the page.

I agree that it would be beneficial if premiere members had some benefit over free members, especially if paying for the site is an issue. I have considered becoming a premiere member just to support a site I enjoy visiting, but now I'm glad I didn't because I don't like this change. No reason has been given for this change, and members are not given the option of returning to the old format even though the majority would clearly opt for that if we could. At the moment, there doesn't seem to be a reason to support this site at all.

I do not know what you are referring to by 'top banner,' so please forgive me if I do not use proper computer terminology: I have no ads above the postings, but do have annoying large boxes of ads taking up the right one-third of the screen. What is more annoying is that they are trying to convince me to get a degrees which I already. I am a paying member, so these large ads interfering with my reading is distracting to an already hard to read screen.

Although you wish to hear specifics, rather than just plain old criticism, please consider that some of us do not know enough computer related terminology to express ourselves in a way other than 'bring it back.' There is just too much navigating, clicking and scrolling that has to be done through a already hard to read screen, to waste more space on those ads.
