VA Hospital in Denver

U.S.A. Colorado

Does anyone here currently work at the Denver VA Hospital? I am currently working for the VA on the east coast, and considering a transfer---my fiance got a job in Denver...

Any input as to job satisfaction, pay, specialties would be appreciated. I am currently working as a BSN on a Med/Surg Tele unit. Thanks!:D

I love it there! I am in the process of moving though, so...I will be sad to go.

I am waiting on a start date. Thanks for all th epositive information on working there :)

Is anyone familiar with how long the hiring process usually takes at the Denver VA?

Well, I applied for a job there in March as a VA Employee already--just was called to interview YESTERDAY June 14! I can imagine it would take much longer for a non-VA employee.

IDK where you are located in CO but I also applied at the Cheyenne VA on the same day and was interviewed and offered the position in about 2 1/2 weeks. (Granted I emailed the hiring manager after applying that may have sped up the process). They seem to be much smaller and quicker, as they are in a different VISN than the Denver VA.

Ultimately I went with a private hospital job, normal 12 hour shifts and in the unit I wanted which I would never get the opportunity to do at the VA (labor and delivery).

Good luck to you!

Thank you for the info.

I also am a current VA employee.

It has been about 6 weeks since I applied. I will continue to be patient.

Did you apply to the 4 South positions or the ICU spots?

The ICU positions.

I applied for both as well. I was offered 4 South, but have not heard anything about even an interview for ICU. Obviously I don't have experience in that area and may not be contacted at all---but I haven't heard from that listing.

I'm sure you'll be a shoe in though as you already work for the VA and have experience in ICU.

GOOD LUCK! I hope it is a nice VA.

Specializes in Emergency Room.

I work at the Denver VAMC on the Medical/Telemetry/Oncology Unit.

As for job satisfaction - it waxes and wanes, like everywhere else (or so I hear!). I have great colleagues that I feel comfortable with on a clinical and personal level. The unit that I work on is high turnover, but if you are used to a high-stress, quick-paced unit - then our Med/Surg will not be far off!

Pay is good - better than other RN's in the Denver-area. As you know, the VA system has amazing benefits... which is always a plus.

I never did hear a thing. I finally received a reply back after many calls and emails that they filled the positions. I was hoping for at least an interview but no. Thanks for your input.

It took me three months to obtain a new graduate packet/new employee packet from HR - I had to call and/or e-mail on a daily basis. I finally got a hold of someone, after the three months... and then it took about four additional months to receive a job offer. I thought that this was just me, but since I've been working here - it's just the VA System.

What type of unit do you want to work on? The ICU's accept applicants only a couple times a year... and I know that we have positions on the Med/Surg units...

I have been an ICU RN in the VA System for 4 years. I applied for transfer when the last positions were open. I had just thought since I currently work for the VA I would at least get an interview. I will be moving to Denver either way so I may just have to leave the VA and re-enter when possible.
