University of Colorado accelerated BSN summer 2013

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hi everyone!

Who else has submitted their application? Due date was October 15th.

I did not realize that an invitational only interview was required! I wish they gave more advanced noticed than October 25th in order to have gotten the best value on a plane ticket.

What are your backgrounds? Are you applying to any other accelerated nursing programs?

I have over 4 years of experience as a medical assistant (college graduate, did not go to school to become MA). I'm happy that this program does not require more prerequisites. Some other accelerated schools around the country require Organic chemistry and Biochemistry! Thankfully I have all my prereqs completed. I do not live in Colorado and I am open to moving anywhere for an accelerated BSN. Other schools I havce applied to so far include UW and SUNY Stony Brook.

Specializes in Peds, Med-Surg, Disaster Nsg, Parish Nsg.

Mived to Colorado State Nursing Programs for more response.

Hello! I've also applied to the 2013 summer cohort!

I think they started doing interviews last year? as I have read in the other forums, but I also live out of state and am hoping, if I even get an invite to the interviews, they will allow skype interviews since I am still taking classes and working as well... even though it does say mandatory on-campus interview day

That's awesome that you have worked for so long as a MA, you must know a lot about the field! I don't have a lot of background other than volunteering.

I'm from out of state too. I asked them about the interview before and they said that the HIGHLY recommend an in-person one and rarely make exceptions. They said last year they allowed only 5 skype interviews and none of them were granted acceptance. So I decided not to apply..

HI!

I also applied. But I didn't get an email by the 25th, so I didn't get in. AGAIN. I have 3 years of CNA LTC and hospital experience and a 3.5 GPA. CU looks at GPA and essay only, so unfortunately they don't care about experience. I graduate from CU in December so I thought I would have a leg up! But nope .

I really don't know what to do anymore. I am an alternate at Regis and have another interview soon, but if I don't get in I may go with DSN... That's my background!

Goodluck to you all!

DSN is a good school! It's just a bit longer of a program. I've heard really good things about Regis! Good luck!

hello :)

is there anyone that is attending the interview day?

I read that it was a group interview...I wonder what they are going to ask!

Did anyone attend CU's interview day today and have any input on what it was like for them? I was there today, and thought it went more smoothly than I expected.

Also, no one seemed to know or were unable to tell us when we'd find out whether we were admitted/alternate-listed/denied. Does anyone know how long it takes after the interview to find out?

Eando-if you haven't had your interview yet, the questions they ask aren't "weird" at all and aren't really meant to throw you off. But there's almost as much time spent asking the interviewers questions as there was being asked things by them, so I'd suggest having a few prepared!

And Kerleigh722, that's scary, my undergrad overall is just under 3.5 and I have NO experience (only retail/customer service). 4.0 in pre-reqs was all I had going for me. Would you care at all to share a little of what your Regis interview was like? I have one next week. How many people are in the room interviewing you?

Hi kerleigh,I interviewed today and they told us that 80% of the interviewees have previous degrees-and many had masters. Maybe next year once you have a degree under your belt you'll get in!

Hi mirandabear! I was there today, too! They told our group that we should know by Thanksgiving. Good luck!

thank you so much mirandabear! i interviewed today

there are so many interesting people with a lot of experience in various fields, I felt sort of under-qualified but glad that I got to attend the interview!

and as ergs22 said, they told us they'd hopefully send out letters by thanksgiving but i'm not sure if they will tell us if we get denied. I'm glad they are not making us wait for a long time though :)

Mirandabear-

There are 1-2 faculty members that interview you at Regis. They only ask a handful of questions and it goes by really fast, but they are super nice and they always make you feel comfortable. If your interview is Friday, you must be from out of state? Good luck!
