UCH Residency July 2012

U.S.A. Colorado

Anyone else get an interview with University of Colorado Hospital Residency program for July 2012 start?

Congrats! Which unit were you offered a position in. I haven't heard anything yet, but they said we wouldn't hear until next week so hopefully there is still hope!

Congrats, NewGradNurse2012! What unit are you on? I was called this morning and offered a position too, on the Cardiovascular IMC!!

Best of luck to everyone! I was told we'd hear during next week, so I'm sure they'll contact people all week!

I received a job offer too!!! However, I am having problems with getting my Colorado license on time. I am authorized to take the California exam but just recently applied to take the Colorado one and still awaiting for the authorization to test. Anyone out-of-state with the same problem?

P.S. Congratulations to those who also received an offer and good luck to those who haven't received a call yet!

Congrats on getting the job! I got offered a job too in the medical icu! Very excited! I am moving from Florida, and know very little about living in Denver! Have you talked to anyone that's taking a position at UCH? Are you from Colorado? Do you have an idea where you are going to live?

Congrats to you too! I am from California. Nurses I've encountered when I was there for my interview as well as the employee health nurse that called me for my appointment all said they love working at UCH. They also mentioned how great their new grad program is. I don't have any idea yet where I am going to live because I'm still dealing with getting my Colorado license on time.

Congratulations! It looks like we're all out-of-towners, haha. I'm from Arizona, and I second that; I've heard really reassuring things from a few nurses who work there. The manager I interviewed with said that many of the nurses at UCH went through the program when they first started which speaks about their retention. Not to mention, it is a beautiful hospital and a beautiful place to be. :)

Congratulations to everyone that is going to be starting at UCH in July! I am going to be in the Burn ICU. I am moving from Iowa and will be living with my brother for a bit until I figure out the living situation. Does anyone have any tips on where to live and such?

It's so exciting that there are so many of us coming from different states! I am definitely looking for a roommate or two! Let me know if you are interested! My email is [email protected]

I have heard that it is good to live in East Denver because of the snow that occurs in the winter months - easier to get to the hospital! Places like Stapleton! Anyways please free to contact me!

Congratulations to all!

I will be on the medicine subspecialties unit (as long as this endorsement process goes smoothly...).

I'm extremely excited, but I have a major concern - I tested for California (my home state) since I didn't know whether or not I would get into the program, and my endorsement papers were sent today. California takes 4-6 weeks to send the "verification of original license" which means I may not get my Colorado license by the deadline of July 16. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm freaking out a bit.

I heard about the possibility of Colorado being a "walk through" state in which you can set up an appointment and go to get a temporary license until you get your permanent one, but I'm not sure about the validity of it. I will need to call in the morning. Currently, insomnia is getting the best of me.

Please let me know if anyone has any advice!

In terms of where to live - I've been taking my chances on craiglist, and found a place in Aurora. A couple of my friends from Denver says that Aurora may not be the best place to live, but coming from California/ San Francisco where there are definite areas you do not want to live, I don't think Aurora is all that bad. It also seems that Stapleton, Lowry, and Park Hill would be good choices as well.

Also, if you're wondering what "DTC" is in the craigslist ads, it stands for Denver Tech Center, and it's close to Cherry Creek which is a fairly wealthy area. That area is normally full of traffic so I wouldn't recommend living there.

Once again, congratulations to everyone, and I look forward to meeting you!

I am also in the process of endorsing my license from CA to CO. I sent in my endorsement paperwork to CO today and submitted my verification last week in person to the CA BRN. I was told it shouldn't be more than 2-3 weeks for the verification.

Around the end of next week I plan to contact the CO BRN to see if they have received it. My advice would be to give them some time to get stuff done, but if it doesn't seem like things are progressing to contact someone and explain the situation.

I can totally empathize though; if moving away from California wasn't stressful enough, this has sure added to it!

As far as where to live, I have heard the same things about Stapleton, Lowry and Park Hill. Definitely struggling picking a place; it's difficult not being able to see it beforehand, but it's always nice to get input.

Thanks, and I hope this helps :)

Hey Calinurse,

Thanks for your response - did CO Board say anything about needing the original license verification from California before they can issue anything? California takes forever on anything, and that's what worries me the most.

The other thing is that CO said they were behind in processing applications and it will take "2-3 weeks, possibly more."

Thanks!
