U.S.A. Colorado

Published

My wife and I are thinking of moving to Colorado after we get our R.N. license. Any information about different cities, towns, hospitals, and pay would be helpfull. We live in a nice town in California 12,000 population and have 3 boys ages 6, 10, and 12. Thank you for your help.

I don't agree with your figures, but that's O.K.

The information you quoted is fine. You don't have to believe me, just call and ask the nurse recruiters yourself. I've been contemplating a move out there for awhile b/c my parents are not so well. I've talked personally and met with nurse recruiters in regards to their new grads.

Memorial hospital has it on their website for everyone to see; $23. Penrose will tell you flat out. I believe it was UC Denver or Boulder that told me close to 6 months ago that new grads make $20! That's appalling.

If you even read back on this thread, others have said the same thing:)

Your rates, are definitely for a nurse with experience.

Just curious, how many year of experience nurse should have to be considered as "experienced" as we speak? Is there any particular time line, crossing which you become experienced? :D

Years! I have no idea, really. I have had nurse recruiters tell me that until I have a year under my belt, I would still have to be hired as a new graduate and go into a new grad training program. I cannot wait for that day to come:)

Who knows what is pay for RN with some experience? For example, 2 years?

IMHO, a big part of the reason the wages are low for 'new grads' is d/t supply and demand. While there may be a shortage of 'experienced' nurses, there is no shortage of new grads. Especially in the northern part of the state and denver. In the (approx) past 5 years, the nsg schools have doubled the # of graduates. It is competitive to even get hired in that area without experience.

I have always wondered about how the 'right to work' laws work, but CO nurses don't have much job protection. I can give many examples.

The new grad pay is indeed 22-25/hr, I've been tracking this for a year now and continue to be disappointed. I lived out in Denver a couple years back and would love to move back... However.. To go through the education that we went through, to have the responsibilities that we have on the job and for the cost of living to be what it is in Denver... It simply isn't right. Starting wages in the sacramento and sacramento foothill area for new grads is around 36$ per hour with a very comperable cost of living. From the best I can figure, it's a supply and demand thing. If it's a nice place to live like Denver or the So Cal coastal cities then the pay is horrendous because they know people will still want to work there. So unfortunately, until they allow legalized organized crime into Colorado(unions), Ill stay in Ca :(

can somebody tell me how much rn with 2-years experience can earn in colorado? i worked 2 years in med.surg/ ortho unit in one midwestern states. now in summer i'm moving to colorado. i had found on this website different options about new-nurse salaries, but none about wages for nurses with some experience.

also i would really appreciate any advice about hospitals in boulder-denver areas. any subjective input is more than welcome.

Hi! Hope3456

I will graduate in BSN program in a few days in Texas and plan to move to Fort Collin this Fall with my husband and three children. Can you give more information about the hospitals in Fort collin. You said it is very competitive to find a job as a new grad? I am worried??? By the way what do you mean PVH?

Hi Nolongeributhe09,

PVH stands for Poudre Valley Hospital or Poudre Vally Health System, which is a hospital in Fort Collins. I work for a hospital in downtown Denver; however, I can tell you about 10 months ago I contacted PVH about a position. It was one of the only positions that stated they would hire new grads. The hr rep I spoke with said that the position was only open for 72 hours, and they had 175 applicants; she told me they were OPEN to hiring new grads- they just had not had to as of yet. I had a difficult time getting a job out here and had to relocate until I had more experience. I have 2 years experience now between a progressive care unit and ICU. There are jobs available out here; but most of them are looking for nurses with more than 1 year experience. Good Luck!!

Any idea what the pay is for a PRN with about 8-10 YOE? Prefer COS or Pueblo areas.

Very good day!! Wife got offered a job in the Float Pool starting a little over $40 an hour!! Going to be bouncing around Colorado Springs area but that is where we wanted to be anyways!! Can't wait to get there!!

Does anyone have an idea on pay for 2 years experience?
