Metropolitan State University of Denver - Traditional Nursing Option (TNO)

U.S.A. Colorado

I don't see any post talking about TNO program of MSU . I applied TNO program for a 2015 start. MSU begins to use new criteria this year. I want to know if anyone applied in this program. Let's share your GPA, HESI scores, CNA amployment, and your experiences going through the process.

I'm applying for the 2016 start. Have a relatively good GPA (3.6) and got a 85% on the HESI. I have been working as a CNA at university hospital for about 7 months now. Just trying to get an idea if I'll possibly make it in. Also applying to DSN. Did you get into MSU Denver? If so what were your stats?

I am working on completing all of the general education classes prior to applying to the TNO Program for the 2017 Session. I have 5 classes left, so, 2 semesters.. I hope to sit for the Hesi Test in the fall 2016. I have a good GPA (3.66) and should get a good score on the Hesi but I do not have any CNA or healthcare experience other then working for DaVita in their Lab cash office and then in the corporate office, (total time there was almost 4 years). I do not think that experience will count. Therefore, I am wondering if I will even get in without the healthcare experience. I hope I do, because I have worked hard to complete all of the general education requirements, and I would hate to have to start paying back student loans while I am waiting on getting into the program. I guess I could take extra classes while I waited but that would just end up costing me money that I do not need to spend. If anyone has any info about the TNO program and what it takes to get in, that would be so wonderful of you to share. In addition, anyone out there who may have graduated from this specific program, maybe you could share your experience and how long it took you to find a good paying position after graduation. Thanks for any information any of you have and are willing to share.

To be completely honest, you like will not get in without a Cna or healthcare experience. I am currently on the waiting list, have my Cna with hospital experience, a 3.6 GPA and got a 88 on the HESI. A friend of mine has a 4.0 but doesn't have a Cna and the nursing admin told her they have never accepted someone without a Cna. I would go ahead and get certified before you apply and you will have a good chance at getting in! Good luck!

@barbie024

to applying to the TNO Program for the 2017 Session.

I am also going to apply to the TNO program for 2017 Start. I am really hoping to get in as this is my first choice in schools. I was also unsure about getting my CNA prior to applying... After reading the comments it seems like a really good idea that I will have to look more into.

Thanks for your replies.. I am going to apply to the program as soon as I complete my HESI A2 on Aug 22nd. I can hope for the best but prepare for the worst... I am also applying to Arapahoe's ADN program for a Spring 2017 start as well... If I fail to get into either than I guess I just try again next year. Can you tell me, did you take your HESI A2 for Metro specifically and did you take it at a Prometric Site? I am wondering if I should be studying for all of the HESI A2 sections or will I only be tested on the reading and math sections?

I have passed the HESI A2 with a cumulative score of 95% --- I was so excited when I saw the scores :)

I also have applied to the 2017 TNO program with Metro and I am hoping that I am able o get in on the first try.

Does anyone know how many students apply to the TNO on an average each year? Also, am I correct that only 24 students are chosen each year or are there 2 cohorts of 24 for a total of 48 students chosen each year?

Has anyone else on here applied for the 2017 TNO Start?

Please let me know if you get into MSU's TNO program! I'm a freshman there this year and I'm just worried about getting in because I have no healthcare experience. And from what I understand there are only 24 students accepted into the TNO program each year.

Also I was curious what type of timeframe you completed your prereqs and general studies in?

Hi Katrina,

I was only able to take classes on a part time basis so it has taken me 3 years (I started in the summer semester of 2013) just to complete all the general studies classes but I have been and continue to be dedicated to obtaining my BSN so, I have worked really hard over these last 3 years. I hope all of my hard work will pay off and I will be accepted into the Spring 2017 BSN program at Metro :)

I will post an update when I hear from Metro as to if I was accepted or not.

Thanks for your reply,

Barbie

Hey Barbie!

Thank you for replying! I went to a info session today with Tobin and he said around 160 people apply each year :nailbiting: Good luck!! I hope you get accepted into the program!

I applied for Metro's TNO January 2017 start. I have been accepted! I have a 4.0 GPA, scored a 96% on the HESI, and also had over 500 hours of CNA experience at the time that I turned in my application. I think Metro is tough to get into simply because they do not accept many applicants per year. I was honestly feeling nervous when I applied. I wasn't sure if I would get accepted because I didn't complete any of my prereqs at Metro. Best of luck to everyone and hope you were accepted as well @barbie024!
