Front Range Community College January 2015 start

U.S.A. Colorado

Just wondering if anyone else was applying to the Front Range Community College ADN program to start in January 2015. Just submitted my application. Finished all my prereqs, took the HESI, and the Elementary Algebra Accuplacer. That was an annoying surprise -- I didn't know the MAT 030 prereqs were going to be required in the application. They keep changing what they want. I went to the last admissions info session this spring, and they said they were no longer requiring A&PII, but then they kind of required it for this admissions cycle.

Anyway, fingers crossed.

I would highly suggest you forget about getting you ADN and go straight to you BSN unless you are okay with work in a SNF or Rehab facility. Hospitals will not hire you! I have been an ADN graduate since December and have you yet to find a hospital RN job.

Wow, that's awful! I was hoping to do a dual enrollment option for the BSN.

I am in a dual enrollment with Regis now and still am not considered. The market is saturated with new grads and hospitals can be picky and take the BSN new grads only. The Community Colleges don't tell you this because they don't want to close their program. If I could do it over again I would have gone straight to a BSN program.

Is it just because the market is so saturated in the Denver area? Or is this all over?

What schools would you recommend? UNC?

It's occurring out of state as well. I would suggest CU-Denver, CU-Colorado Springs, DSN, Regis. Also if you get into a BSN program after your first semester you can apply to the ACP at University of Colorado Hospital and then have a step in the door for when you graduate. I am a CNA at UCH and still can't be considered for a job ever until i get some experience since I don't have my BSN.

I'm considering applying to FRCC (Larimer campus) for fall of 2015, then transferring to UNC for their RN-BSN program. I was going to apply right into UNC, but it will take longer for me to finish prereqs, and I don't want to overload myself this year. If you are in Northern Colorado I would recommend UNC. It will be closer than those other schools, and they have a great reputation. One of my friends just started their BSN program (she already has a bachelors).

Yea, I feel like I should just stay with FRCC since I already committed a year and a half to doing the prereqs for it. That seems like one of the difficult things with nursing school -- the prereqs are so different from school to school, AND they are constantly changing. It's sort of an irritating system if you want to apply to different schools.

Are you going to do a transfer or the dual enrollment thing with UNC? They just started the UNC dual enrollment program this fall, I think.

I hadn't heard about the dual enrollment. I'll have to look into that!

FRCC-Larimer does a dual enrollment with UCCS. I just started this week and talked to our campus rep about the dual enrollment program today, actually. If you look at FRCC nursing website they list all the bridge/dual programs but I think UCCS is one of the only dual, most require you have your RN and bridge from ADN to BSN.

Oh cool! Congrats! Yea, I think the Metro State program starts after the ADN, but the UNC program is supposed to be like the UCCS one where you start taking classes in the summer while you're still working on your ADN. The UCCS program seems the more established one -- when I went to the info session, I think Lori said this was the first year UNC was offering the concurrent enrollment.

I knew about the UCCS dual enrollment. It's exciting about UNC. I know a nurse that graduated from FRCC almost 4 years ago. He is working ER at PVH and earning his BSN right now. So there are jobs out there right now, even for ADN nurses. But I think you have to be willing to get your bachelors.
