Exempla healthcare?

Does anybody have any suggestions, words of advice, etc. about Exempla?? St. Joes or Lutheran?? I am especially interested in Labor/delivery or NICU areas. I've been doing some research, and the websites make the place look ok. But of course, I know how misleading that can be!!

Here's the deal with me, to help you understand. I got a seemingly good job offer in TX, moved, and hate the place with a passion. My dh was in the army at Ft. Carson, in Colorado Springs, and LOVED colorado. I feel like I need to move in order to maintain my sanity, and I'm thinking of either going back to NC or giving CO a try. I've never heard anything negative about CO.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Colorado, my homestate! It is a wonderful place to live, I am currently living in Japan and I am looking so forward to returning to Colorado next Aug 05! Colorado has so much to offer. I am not sure about any jobs or even Hospitals at this point. I am still finishing my prereqs at this pt. If you have any specific questions about Colorado you can pm me. My sister is a headhunter or so to say for DR's all over Colorado. We can talk if you would like.

Hey Stacy - whereabouts in Japan? We were stationed at Yokota AB with FEN from 79 to 82 got married there (I was in the Navy and hubby was Air Force) and our oldest son was born at Yokota. We went back to visit in 1988 when we were in Korea. Just curious. .

Japan is a WONDERFUL place! We live in Aichi-ken prefecture, about 2 hrs north of Nagoya and 1 hr North of Toyota City. We came here just about 2 yrs ago, my husband teaches English to the Junior High School in our small country town of Sugimoto, Asahi-cho! I have recently opened an English school for children ages 1-12 and enjoy it so much. The are crazy about learning english! I will miss this country when we have to return to US but I am excited to start a new career as a nurse within a few yrs upon returning!

Nekhismom, I have lived here in Colorado (Denver area) since 1994, and I love it. I have worked as an OB tech on L&D at St Jo's for seven years. I think it is a pretty good place. I even left for awhile to work elsewhere for 18mos, and came right back! I have also worked at another hospital out here before Jo's, but I think things are really pretty decent where I am at. I will graduate with my ADN in spring 2006, and work there as an RN as well. BTW, the tuition reimbursement and nursing scholarship programs are THE most generous in town! Talk to me if you have any more questions, SG

I'm interested in moving around december/january. By then I will not be a new grad anymore, since I graduated in Dec 03. I want to know if they pay relocation, or have a sign-in bonus?? Also, I had talked to one of the recruiters before I graduated and she said that they don't take new grads on L&D, only mom/baby. I HATE mom/baby, and I am totally NOT trying to work on that kind of floor. I DO have level II and III NICU experience, but I don't want to work there anymore. My dream is L&D.

One more question. How much can I expect to pay for a house or apt. there in a decent area of town?? Where would you suggest we move?? Any other suggestions??

I'm with you on the Mom/baby thing, newborn nursery too. Not my thing, will never do it after floating there in another hospital...BORING. We do hire new grads on L&D, as a matter of fact we just hired another one. The website (click on students) explains the benefits to new grads/hires and also mentions relocation & sign-on bonus to qualified people (not sure what that means!) Another good thing is Exempla is quite competitive with their pay in Colorado. They do market increases frequently to stay up to speed. The RN's just got another increase across the board over a dollar an hour. Also tons of $$ for school. Locations to live in vary, and price also. I live way out in Aurora. Less expensive, longer drive. A lot of my coworkers live up Northeast/west, less expensive. Check out ads in our paper...denverpost.com. As always, if something is suspiciously cheap compared to going rates - look out! Let me know if you need anything! I can always PM you the #'s of who to call as the time is closer for a job. Sandra

Colorado is a wonderful place. I have lived there 3 times in my life. Go AIR FORCE ACADEMY!!! ( To those in Japan.....I used to live in Kadena Air Base....Okinawa!!)

I don't know much about the hospital in Colorado Springs but I do know to stay away from contracts!! Some people get the terrible schedules and terrible treatment when they have a contract with a hospital. It is best to go and leave on your own terms. Work overtime and get the money together for relocation so that way you don't have anyone telling you what you can and cannot do.
