I am considering a move to Colorado. I have been in Florida for 3 years and I really don't like the humidity and flat lands. (Yes the pay sucks)
I grew up in Orange County CA and it really spoils you for everything else. I moved away because it became way too crowded. My boyfriend and I like to hike and would like to do some more of it before we get too old. I've been a nurse for 30 years, I work full time ER so I don't think I'll have any problems getting employment. Looking for milder winter, less than 30 minute commute to work and close to hiking trails. We are considering Woodland Park. Anyone know the area?
I'd love to hear all opinions

i love it here. And as for you getting employed, there is a real demand for nurses out here!

As for the state itself, it has it's perks. Plenty of trails to go hiking. There really are very few places better for the things you like to do. 14,000 ft peaks, lakes, trees, lots of varied terrain.

If you live in Denver metro, perhaps lakewood, you are 15 min away from tons of great trails, but yet still in the city to enjoy the advantages of urban living.

30-45 min outside of Denver:
Evergreen is just outside of the city, and has a beautiful lake and plenty of mountain and trees. You may consider Conifer and Pine.

Morrison as well, is just on the outer rim of the city near Red Rocks. Very beautiful!

Woodland Park is fantastic. My sister and her husband live there, and I grew up in Colorado Springs (and am looking to go back before the ink is dry on my BSN!).

Be advised that they don't have a hospital in WP yet, if you're thinking of hospital nursing. They are supposed to start building one soon, but I imagine it will take a year or two for it to be finished.

Wheeze,

I'm a student nurse, graduating in May...this is some info I can give you about Colorado Springs....

Woodland Park is a very nice place, it is still small but growing fast. I have heard the hospital there will be very small but with your experience you shouldnt have problems getting a job there. In addition there are 3 hospitals in Colorado Springs - Penrose Main, Penrose Community and Memorial Hospital. Many nurses drive down the pass to work at these hospitals and it isnt a bad drive when the weather is nice. Both Memorial and Penrose are building new hospitals in north Colorado Springs with Memorial opening in 2007 and Penrose in 2008.

Thank you all for the great information. It sounds nice there. Do any roads in Woodland park area get closed because of the snow?
I'll be coming to the area in April to check it out.

The road from Woodland Park to Colorado Springs is called "Ute Pass." It's fairly steep and winding. These days, they keep it in pretty good repair in the winter (plus, the winters have been drier the past few years), so if you've got plenty of experience driving in snow, it shouldn't be a problem. My BIL commutes virtually every day, as he teaches EMT classes in Colo Spgs.
