Regis Univ

Regis is great! I'm in the traditional BSN program and I really enjoy it. I transferred here, but it was extremely difficult to do so. They have very few transfer spots available, because they give preference to their students who have stuck through with nursing prerequisites at Regis. They do ADN--BSN on campus or online. Check them out at http://www.regis.edu, then click on admissions, then RHSHP.

My niece goes to Regis and is in their BSN program. Regis definitely has one of the best programs around. From what I've heard, they graduate some of the best nurses. The great thing about Regis for kids going right from high school is that if you take all your pre-reqs there and you maintain a 3.0 GPA in your science classes, you seemlessy progress into the nursing program, meaning you don't compete against anyone, you just go right into the nursing program your junior year. Otherwise, you compete with everyone in the application process, and it's VERY competitive in Denver. The community colleges have the long wait lists, and the 4 year schools have a very touch applicaton process, and you need to have a very high GPA in the science classes to be considered. Regis is pricey though since it's a private school. I think my sister is paying around $30K a year for my niece (she lives on campus too).

I went to Regis - did their accelerated 12 month BSN program. It's a GREAT school. The waiting list for our program when I started I heard was almost 3 years. You come out well prepared and it has a good reputation.

I started in 2004 and the wait for me after I found out I was accepted was 14 months. It was when we started 14 months later we heard the wait was nearing 2.5 to 3 years (so we heard) and they have 2 classes a year one starting in May and one in January. If you are interested in accelerated bachelors programs CU also has a year and a half one and I think they just added a 12 month one as well (this last year - I think) - I am not sure how long the waits are there though.

Hello. I will be turning in my application next month for the accelerated class beginning May 2007. How competitive is this program? What are some of the characteristics of accepted applicants, ie. very high gpa?excellent letters of rec's? And if there is a waitlist, do they accept a portion of students from the waitlist and then fill the remaining spots with new applicants? Thank you!

Hello shoehorses. I got accepted into Regis ABSN for Jan 2007 and I know of 2 others who are in their current May 2006 ABSN intake. I'll try to answer some of your questions.

When I asked about the amount of students who apply and the number of spots, I was told that for the January intake it's typically 200 to 300 applicants for 70-80 spots. For the May intake, it's around 200 to 300 applicants for 40-50 spots. For the applicant pool, I was told was that there are alternates selected from the applicant pool ready to replace those who choose not to enter the program or can't/chose another place to do their nursing program. I'm not sure about the waitlist...

I don't exactly know how they grade the total process (GPA, Letter of Rec, Essay) or if they weigh it equally, but when I applied, they did mention that most of the applicants are above the 3.2 GPA with emphasis being placed on the Sciences GPA (A&P I and II, Micro, Chem, etc).

For the characteristics of accepted applicants, I can only speak on mine and a little bit from another classmate. She has a very high GPA from her former university from a prior degree and has kept straight A's in her prerequisites. I have a decent/good GPA on my prior degree and straight A's in my prerequisites for the sciences. I don't know about the letters of recommendation as I chose to not open mine and submitted it without prior knowledge of what my references wrote. (Regis gives you the option in the form if you wish to review your references prior to submition when you handed your form to your reference and your reference knows about it)

I did spend quite a bit of time on my essay.

I hope that answers some of your questions! The counselors at Regis have been very helpful and I suggest you contact them for further information/questions that you have. They do have an orientation in which you can ask questions and have it twice a month I think.
