New grad salaries in the Denver area

by NO1_2NV

Have heard that new grad nurses are only making $19 an hour in the Denver area. Can anyone confirm this? It seems pretty low. I am thinking about moving to Denver from New Mexico but I am concerned that I can't afford it if this true.

Thanks,

K

In the Ft. Collins area, starting pay is around $20-$21, and differentials for new grads. It seems like denver would be more, but I don't know. From what I have heard, the southern part of the state pays only $18-$19 for new grads

Actually, in the area that I live, it is $23. Our cost of living is significantly less then Denver too.

I have called/interviewed at several facilities in Denver as a new grad and here is what I have found. I make $21 starting out which seems to be the low in Denver. At denver health hosptial you can make $23 per hour. Good luck with your search.

I have heard nothing but 22 to 24 from all of my RN friends. An LPN starts at around 17 to 18.

And aside from the housing (which there is a HUGE difference) you'll be surprised at how similar the cost of living is between ABQ and Denver. (I'm from Albuquerque.)

I wanted to chirp in here quickly to add to what mattymo said last month.
The starting salary for Denver Health is indeed $23 and change an hour. Also, there is a $4 night differential which is applicable to new grads (from what I understand).

This is the highest I have heard, from reliable sources, in Denver Metro proper.

HI all! Recent new grad making the interview rounds in the Denver metro area with a bit of info. The salary above is correct for Denver Health and is openly posted on their website (denverhealth.org), just interviewed there yesterday. They also compensate somewhat for any previous healthcare experience and have outstanding benefits (I've worked for them as a tech in the past). The other area hospitals are closer to the $22 average.
Also, the earlier quote of $17-18/hr for LPN pay is a bit generous. They start closer to $14-16/hr depending on previous experience and specific hospital. Denver Health is one of the best paying hospitals in the area and posts their pay ranges on that website alongside the job posted. Hope this helps! SG

As a new grad (started in Feb '06) I am making $20.50 + any differentials. This is at UCH in Denver.
