new grad hiring freeze

Hello, any one know of new grad positions in Denver right now? I will do whatever it takes, but it is so difficult to find anyone that is willing to train. I will sweep floors and work as a CNA if I have to. I am unable to move because I can't take the kids out of Denver and I would never leave them. I have a BSN and passed the boards at the end of April. I will take any suggestion. Are other new grads having dificulties?

If you look at previous posts on this board, you will see that you aren't the only new grad having problems finding their first nsg job, and this seems to be an issue in other locales as well. I'm not in Denver but was looking for jobs there at one time......from what I could tell the hospitals seem to hire new grads at only certain times of the year, and you can only apply as a 'new grad' during a specified time frame. perhaps call the nsg recruiter (or email) and ask when they will be hiring new grads?

I'm not trying to be snotty, but this idea of a hiring freeze doesn't jive with what's on Indeed.com, even for new grads...

What you describe is what is so frustrating for nurses right now, especially those with limited experience. Many of these jobs posted on sites such as indeed.com, monster.com ect are thru staffing agencies. If you have ever dealt with a staffing agency you know there is a chance the job may not even exist or won't pan out. It is really hard right now for new grads b/c many of these jobs REQUIRE experience and you can't even get an interview otherwise. The general public doesn't understand this.

Not snotty, just uniformed. As someone who has been submitting applications since May (over 400 last count, spread over 7 states!), I can tell you that those staffing agencies are crap for new grads. I thought at first that the one I was dealing with was just unprofessional and stopped returning my calls. But 5 agencies later, this new grad knows that there is something afoot when they call and sound so excited and will do anything to get you to submit an application or resume with them, but then dry up and vanish. Yes, I've tried Indeed.com. New grads, try submitting your head full speed into a wall before a resume with Indeed.com! At least you will have a nice bruise to show for it!

If there was a hiring freeze, nobody would be hiring anybody. That is clearly not the case.

I never suggested monster.com, and I wouldn't because as you pointed out, it's a lot of staffing agencies and their games. I don't think indeed.com is like monster.com, however, because Indeed actually searches employer websites. I would suggest that whenever folks use indeed.com, they set it to return result from employer websites only (its in the advanced search option). Then when you find a job, you can go to the employer's website or, whenever possible, directly to their physical address with your resume and talk to an actual recruiter or HR person. Personally I would never submit a resume to an online job website, unless it was the actual employer and they asked for it.

I'm not saying its easy to find a job, or that new grads who have not are not trying. The job application process is tedious, difficult, and sometimes downright humiliating, but it's not hopeless.
