Denver School of Nursing question??

I would not encourage you to pay the DSON costs - considering the job market in Denver (and elsewhere) for new graduate RN's. I would hate to graduate with such a large student loan and not be able to find a job.

That is something to consider. I honestly wouldn't pay the tuition for an ADN degree. I think for a BSN it is pretty competitive with other schools. I am also hoping the job market is better when I graduate in Sept 2010. Hope are you having a hard time finding a job right now? If so I wish you much luck!

I graduated from a FRCC school (ft collins) 4 years ago. I only had 7k in debt - partly b/c i paid off my car with my student loan b/c of the cheaper interest rate. i got tuition assistance from my employer and worked while going to school. However i didn't get hired on the unit i wanted (even after working as a tech there) they told me they were able to hire experienced nurses......the options for new grads just were really limited. I did get hired on a unit i really didn't want to work on. I ended up relocating out of state and practically got hired on the spot in a rural hospital which has been good experience. I would like to come back to CO in a couple years.

It just seems to me there are so many nsg schools in Northern CO that it creates pretty stiff competition, contrary to what the news media says. That is what I attempt to warn nurses (esp new grads) wanting to relocate to this area. I thought it was just the northern front range towns but now it sounds like it has hit denver and COS too.

And it seems unfair to me that someone should pay 30k+ to go to nsg school when the person going to a CC pays only 2k a semester (or less) for the same education/job opportunities. Yeah i know the wait lists suk but so do outrageous student loans.
