Interesting to hear they are not even in the candidate program because I know that DSN had a site visit in the spring of '09 for a Nursing accreditation. I start the ADN in Jan '10 and was told that they are working on it when I interviewed. Maybe it was a different nursing certification?

Maybe it's the CCNE? They don't even have a list of accredited programs on their website, let alone the ones under consideration.

For the most part from what I have heard most of the grad schools do not take ACCSCT.

The problem I have with DSN is I have heard they have been 'working' on this for literally YEARRRRRRSSSSSSSSS it doenst seem to add up or people are just saying that to keep future students/students at bay.

I know they have a thing with UoP but spending an additional 60k isnt a option for everyone after they spent so much on their BSN

Coloradogrl - they've been working on it for years because it takes years to be accredited! It will happen!

Well DSN has a unique situation. They have several programs, but from what I understand each one needs different things for accreditation. I did some research on ACCSCT. I called several grad schools and most said they would not accept ACCSCT accreditation, but the University of Kansas City would. And I spoke to a women from NLN and she did say that DSN is not of candidate status, but I am confident that they will soon be seeking it. When I inteviewed at the school they had intentions to. The woman from NLN said it takes 1-2 years, depending on how fast the school moves, to get accredited by NLN. But like I said before they aren't even of candidate status yet. But it all takes time and they did just get the ACCSCT accredidation. This isn't going to stop me from trying to get in because there are grad schools that will honor DSN's programs. And I love the facility and Really liked Mr. Johnson, he really took the time to answer all of my question.

We are seeking HLN accreditation currently. We have to have HLN accreditation before we can apply for NLN candidacy. It's a big red tape process of jumping through hoops.

What is HLN accreditation? How long will this accreditation process take?

What is DSN doing to address the decline in NCLEX pass ratio?

HLN is Regional accreditation. We are supposed to have it sometime in Oct. We are also supposed to have NLN candidacy a few months after that, that's all I know.

Our Med/Surg professor beefed up NCLEX style questions in her class. I would assume all other classes have done this as well. We are also required to pass a HESI before graduation now.

Are you planning on attending DSN?

As a DSN student who is about to graduate, I feel disappointed with DSN administration. They do not do anything to help students pass NCLEX. Instead, they implemented HESI exit exam to artificially inflate DSN NCLEX passing rates. If you will not pass HESI exit exam, you will not graduate and will not be allowed to take NCLEX exam. They do not offer any practice tests or any other assistance. Last quarter, only 50% of students passed HESI exam and only those 50% will recieve a degree. It's scary to know that you wasted time and money and will walk out of school without any degree. But I am sure that passing rate for DSN will go up with this strategy.

I start in January and was never told about the HESI exit exam. I dont like hearing this. Can someone retake the HESI if the dont pass the firs time. Certainly it looks equally as bad to not have 50% of a class graduate as it does not passing the NCLEX, don't you think?
