Denver Area Nursing Schools

Hi Karen,

I've looked into many BSN programs in the Denver Area; my two favorites being UCHSC (University of Colorado Health Science Center) and Regis University. As far as acclerated programs go, Regis does have one, but I don't think UCHS does. Regis is private and is expensive (around 30K a year), but UCHSC is considerably cheaper if you're a resident.

If I already had a degree and was able to go to school in Denver, I would take a good hard look at the UCHSC Nursing Doctorate program. I am a little out of touch with the latest news about the program, but they used to have a 4 year program for people with BS's in other fields that was excellent. The first 3 years were classes, but the 4th year was a paid internship.

The ND degree is a graduate degree kind'a "in between" a Master's and a PhD in rank. It would only take 1 additional year of school plus the 1 year paid intership and it would get you a degree that would qualify you for a Master's level position plus a few that usually require a doctorate. It's a little more investment up front, but the pay-off is a lot higher.

I'm currently in an accelerated second degree program and will be finishing up a the end of September. From start to finish, it was 16 months with no prior nursing education or knowledge. As far as I know, ours was the last class at our school. Sorry I can't help you more! ACC (Arapahoe Comm College) had a couple accelerated programs, I don't know if they still do or not.
