CU-Denver Hospital New Grad Residency Program

Hi,

Has anybody been notified whether or not they've been selected for an interview?

Thanks!

Nope I haven't and this is my second time applying to it. It's so competitive so honestly I am not surprised that I have not even heard anything yet. Hopefully you will get an interview because then that is definitely one step closer to getting into the program.

Hey Nurse 901, thanks for replying... yeah, I applied there for nursing school and never got in, so I've been less than optimistic for being accepted for a residency position. Seems like they consider GPA quite a bit, which is a bummer.

Plus, I'm sure with the surplus of new grads, they can be even more picky.

Good luck to you and hopefully you'll find something soon!

I applied as well and haven't heard anything...I think I let the UCH dream die and moved on to other options.

Hey RNdude100 and e.Lindsey!!! Yes I have pretty much given up on the hospital as well. If they are going off of GPA then I probably will not be selected because mine was a 3.3, which is not bad but it's no 4.0. Well I guess I will continue to keep plugging away and hopefully someone will give us all a chance.

Yeah, fingers crossed, we'll all find something soon. It's a bummer about the GPA thing... mine was similar to yours, Nurse 901: 3.28.

Just because people scored high test scores, doesn't necessarily mean they'll be good nurses. Just my .02 cents.

RNDude100 (nice name by the way) Yes I agree with you and that is why it's frustrating when programs put a big emphasis on the GPA. One of my teachers was a straight A student in nursing school and he mentioned that when he went out into the field he had alot of difficulty because he was so book smart and not necessarily clinical smart. I know there are people that are both (lucky them) but most of the 4.0 students I know have difficulty with applying their knowledge to a clinical setting. Anyway when I was frustrated in nursing school and trying to achieve those A's he would tell me that B nurses make the Best nurses. I really appreciated that. Hopefully that encourages you. Good luck RNDUDE

I didn't know they weight so heavily on GPA and considering mine was just a 3.2 and compounded that I got my BSN outside of CO probably worked against me. I think the facility is great but it seems like its impossible to get into so if I really want to work there, I might have to just get experience else where and work my way in...I am hoping the other hospitals are a little more generous with new grads....

Hey e.Lindsey yeh I received my BSN out of state as well. I am originally from Colorado but then decided to go out of state when I learned that the wait list for Denver metro nursing schools was about three years. Now I am just trying to get back in to the Denver hospitals and it is quite difficult. If you don't mind me asking where did you go to school?? and have you applied in other states as well? I just started to about three weeks ago but still feel stuck. Good luck to you
