Anyone else starting UCHSC in June?

by BensMom

Just wondering- is anyone else is attending UCHSC this summer? If so I'd like to be able to say Hi at orientation next week. Its always nice to be familiar with other people at the start of something new.

Bensmom,
How are you enjoying the program at UCHSC? I have applied for the accelerated BSN. Anxious to hear what you think and how it is going - workload, professors, etc. When did you hear that you had been admitted? Is it the traditional 2 yr program. Any advice would be greatly welcome.

I started the traditional 2 yr program last June. I have had clinicals with several people in the accelerated program. The traditional program has been great. The professors and clinical instructors have all been professional, respected in their fields and genuinely interested in helping students advance. Our workload has been heavy but doable. I have an 11 yr old at home so I try to reserve the weekends for family time. This has worked for the most part. The main exception was with Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. With a test each week some weekend time really was needed. The schedule for the accelerated program seems a bit overwhelming to me but the students in it seem very happy although they don't seem to have any kind of personal life. The only thing I have not been pleased with is the situation for the labs that go along with Nursing Fundamentals and Intro to Health Assessment. I'm sure that situation will improve when the move to Fitzsimmons is complete. I was informed of my acceptance early in November for the program starting the next June. With just 2 more semesters and only 2 major clinicals left, I feel like I'm on the downhill side finally.Good luck. Let me know if you are accepted, I'd be happy to meet you.

Thanks! I am keeping my fingers crossed and will let you know as soon as I hear and would love to meet with you as well. I have a 10 and 11 year old and it makes so much difference dialoging with other mothers in nursing school.
