anyone applying to CU for 2010?

by Sand_Dollar Premium Member

Is anyone going to put in their application this fall for Spring or Summer 2010?. I'm excited about finally getting to put in my application, I'll be attending the August 1st info session and be applying for the summer session. I will still be taking pre-reqs in the spring and I was so relieved when I found out I don't have to have everything finished to apply. My GPA is currently 4.0 and I should (I hope!) be able to keep that up until next spring. I'll be done all my sciences at the end of this summer semester and only have a couple math, a history and a pile of social sciences to do (music appreciation anyone!). The admission essay is making me nervous, but I have lots of time to work on it - I hope my GPA helps me out and they don't rely on essay alone.

I'd love to be in contact with anyone looking to get into CU.

BTW - I was going to go to DSN, but changed my mind since I decided to retake some old classes, and since we're paying for our own kids to go to college at the same time, needed to keep the cost down.

I'm applying to the accelerated BSN for the summer start. I really don't have high hopes of getting in with my GPA, but I figure it's worth a shot since they don't require recommendations so it's an easy app. I'm also applying to the accelerated BSNs at Regis and Metro. Hopefully I'll get in somewhere. I'd go to DSN except that I want to eventually become an NP and their degree isn't accepted, although maybe by next year they'll get the NLN acceditation and I could go there as a backup if I don't get in anywhere.

Maybe! My first choice is UNC--which works with the hospital I'm interested in (PVH), and which is somewhat easier to get into than CU and which is much, much closer to home (Fort Collins).

But I'm considering applying to CU, too. Sand Dollar, Dennis, have you considered Beth-El, CU's program in Colorado Springs? If I lived in Denver, CU Denver would be my first choice and CU Colorado Springs would be my backup plan.

Good luck to all of us!

Dennis - good luck!! Keep us posted when you get in.

Dina - Is PVH, Platte Valley Hospital? I live in Brighton and its about 5 min away from me. I want to work there when I get my RN, they have a chef and great new equipment and I like everyone I have met there (been there a lot lately) . I love that hospital.

I can't do Beth-El, its just too far away for me. I have a family and own our house so its just not feasible. I did however look at UNC, but what I saw, they want you to have your CNA and a couple of classes, specifically nursing ones, that I would have to take that I don't have. But.. if I don't get into CU then its always an option. Maybe Regis, but I haven't looked too close at that one because of cost.

I am really excited to actually applying to a program. My step-daughter who's in WA state started college the same time I did (last fall), she is going to transfer to another school in fall of 2010, and then APPLY in 2011 to start in 2012. Nothing like good planning - and guess who has to foot more than half the bill.

I just talked with a nursing instructor at Beth-El (I'm in Colorado Springs) and they currently have a wait list. It's a great program but their waitlist is about 2 years. There's just not enough schools in Colorado Springs!

Sand Dollar...good luck and keep us posted!

This is my situation as well. There's no way I can do the commute.

Thanks for well wishes - good luck to you as well!

You want to work for PVH.....you may want to devise a 'plan B,' just in case. I worked as a RN there and from what I saw (and heard) it is difficult and highly competitive for new grads to get a job with them as they don't have much of a problem attracting experienced nurses.

Hi, Sand Dollar. The PVH I'm referring to is Poudre Valley Hospital; they have a 2nd degree bachelor program arrangement with UNC, and that's the program I'm applying to as my first choice. The difficulty with that program is that it's heavily dependent on the interview process, and I may not measure up to what they're looking for.

My second choice is UNC's traditional nursing program. I'm pretty confident about that one--though not if I don't get cracking on this week's assignment!

For some reason I thought you were south of Denver. I wouldn't want to drive from Brighton to Colorado Springs either!

Hi, Hope. At my age I have a Plan B, a Plan C and a Plan D! But Plan A is to enter the second degree BSN program at UNC, with a contract with PVH to work there for two years after graduation. I'm cheerfully prepared to hear "no" for an answser, though. Those are pretty coveted spots.
