Any current or former Metro students?

by Alice88

I applied to the Metro accelerated BSN program (along with Regis and CU) and so far I have been very unimpressed with the staff. They have been unresponsive to e-mails. The application process is pretty convoluted (it would have been nice if they said ahead of time you need to apply to the university separate from the nurshing program), and now I'm having issues with things I didn't do because they weren't in the application instructions.

So I'm wondering if this is indicative of the program itself or is just contained in the admissions process. Are there any current or former students here who can shed some light on how well or poorly the program is run?

they did say on their website that you should apply Metro first and then apply nursing program. It looks really clear to me. And I would suggest you to call them instead of email them. If it switch to voice message, just keep calling...The lady at front desk is really nice but she is also busy. good luck!

But they didn't say that until after they released the application. So you have to waste two weeks getting admitted to get your student number before you can do the nursing application. And they didn't say whether you need to apply as degree seeking or non-degree seeking, and of course I guessed wrong. Just in general, the people I've dealt with haven't been all that helpful and it's been a frustrating process so it's giving a negative impression of the program. I've gotten a much better feeling from Regis and CU.

Anyway, are you a current or former student? I realize that the admissions process isn't necessarily indicative of how well or poorly the program itself is, which is why I'm trying to get some feedback from people who have gone through it or are currently in it.

I am currently in the program. I would say it's a good program and that I am very happy to be in it. There have been a few bumps along the way, but from what I have heard that happens at other schools as well. You will become frustrated at times if you are the type who expects everything to run perfectly all the time.

That being said, Metro's 2009 NCLEX pass rates are 100% so far, and I have done reasonably well on our HESI tests (which I guess are supposed to be similar to the NCLEX). We have only had two so far, but the clinical experiences have been great. From what I heard, most of my classmates have also had great clinical experiences. Speaking of my classmates, they are awesome! This is also a big plus to the program and more important then you probably realize at this point. Obviously, you won't have my classmates. My point is you will likely have very high quality people in the program with you.

Overall, I feel like I am getting a very good education.

I wouldn't hold the application process against them. I just looked at the website, and it looks pretty familiar. I would bet it is similar if not exactly the same as when I applied last year. I think you just missed the part about applying for the school in addition to completing the nursing program application. I know CU didn't, but most other schools I looked at also required that you filled two applications.

Good luck in your decision.

I have a couple of friends that went to Metro and loved everything about it. I know that admissions is always the strangest part of the whole process and usually does not have too much to do with the actual program. When did you apply? I just applied and was wondering when we would find out about getting accepted. I know it said the program started in Jan of 2010, but when I finished the application it said I would find out in Feb. Does anyone know when people usually find out?

cabanaboy, thanks for the reply. This is the kind of feedback that I'm looking for.

nam11, I applied back when the application was released, well 2 weeks after because I had to wait for my S# I talked to someone at the Metro open house back in April or whenever it was and she the notifications should go out in October. I'm thinking they wait for the deadline next week before they make any decisions rather than doing rolling admissions, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the info, I was worried after finding out that UCD applications were for next year, I did not want Metro to be the same thing. Good to hear we will hear by October, I excited to start as soon as possible (if I get in). Are you applying other places?

I applied to CU and Regis. I don't think I have a chance at CU with my GPA but I figured it was worth a shot. I'd prefer Regis over Metro because of the May start date. My company gives bonuses in March so it is a big financial boost. We'll see what happens.

How about you?

I applied to Metro and I am applying to CU, I want to start as soon as possible so I hope I get into Metro. CU's program looks way harder to get into, but I know people who got accepted without great GPAs.
