Hello… I have to say I’m happy that you are doing your research on the nursing schools in Colorado! I am a May 09’ Metro graduate. I hope that some of the information I may give you will help you to make an educated decision as to which school to go to. From my experience, Metro was just ok – NOTHING spectacular! My application process was also a major pain like yours. Once accepted into the program, I felt as though it was extremely unorganized and some teachers just didn’t care. Two of the best teachers in the program left at the end of our cohort I personally disliked a majority of my clinical placements. I felt as though we were placed at sites just to get hours to graduate NOT TO LEARN! Honestly, there was no intelligent decision making that went into clinical placements. Due to this lack of quality, my clinical skills SUFFERED!!!!! The good news is yes Metros pass rate is 100% THE BAD NEWS… ONLY 2% OF THE GRADUATING CLASS NOW HAS A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!! Since I have graduated, I have tried to contact teachers through phone calls and email… I have gotten slow responses if any at all! I feel as though the teachers just don’t give a damn now that I’m not paying tuition! Well, enough of my ranting and raving… make your decision wisely! Good luck in all of your nursing endeavors.

I applied to Metro as well. That's a bit disconcerting to hear, Jellyfish. Hopefully they are improving things.

I was wondering if anyone has found out from Metro if they are in for Jan 2010? I know it has only been 2 weeks from the deadline, but I was wondering what the response time usually is from Metro. I was hoping to know soon, but I do not even have a clue about what their time frame is.

Alice88,

What information did you get from the info session? I know they just changed their program to the Jan start and 17 months, but why did they do this? Did they talk about the schedule? Are we going to have the same breaks as all students at Metro or did they add courses or clinical hours? I was wondering how their semesters work as compared to traditional students at Metro. Any information on the new program would be great if you have any. Thanks

I didn't sit through the info session, I just talked to the admin people who were there. They said they changed the schedule to align it to the regular Metro semester schedule, so it's four semesters - spring, summer, fall and spring. I didn't ask specifically but I assume this means there are the same breaks. They didn't add anything to the curriculum.

I am currently in the Accelerated BSN program at Metro set to graduate May 2010.
The application process was a breeze so long as you can read and follow instructions.
Our start date was March 30 2009 and I found out I got in Mid January. Because they
only admit 30-35 students, several people did not find out about admission until weeks
and even days before our start date. This was because people declined to attend at the
last minute and their spot was filled by someone on the waitlist.

As far as the faculty goes, all are great. Some take awhile to adjust to, but you learn alot.
They changed it from a 13 month program to 17 months because faculty was getting burnt
out. We (including faculty) only had 1 week off in August and 2 weeks off in December. They
also changed it because of financial aid. It was a nightmare for my cohort because we didn't
start classes until April. But, Metro registered us for these classes like we were taking them
in the summer. So financial aid didn't come until late May, early June (which caused a lot of
headaches). But this will be changed for you so those headaches will be avoided.

My clinicals have all been amazing, so far I have been at Denver Health, St. Anthonys Central,
St. Joe's and Porter. I have had great experience with the sites as well as the clinical
instructors (and the nurses we are teamed up with).

I'd be happy to answer any more questions regarding the program.

csulb_student,

I am thinking of going to Metro and had just a few general question I was wondering if you could help me with. What is your schedule like on a daily and weekly basis? Does this schedule change depending on the unit or placement? How hard would you say your classes are? I know people in other programs and they say that pharm and patho are the major classes and the rest are a lot less difficult, is this true for Metro? Do you work or know anyone that works while in the program? I know the 2010 program will be a little more spread out, so maybe we could work a little more than your class. What subjects have you had the most trouble with and would suggest studying up for before school starts?

Thanks
Nick
