your experience working as union nurse (Cal area)

by thekid

I admit to being very new to the idea of being in a union..a good friend of mine is part of a non-medical union, she receives excellent benefits..after ten years with the union, she gets medical coverage for LIFE, also an excellent pension plan.

Would love to hear about your experiences as a nurse in a union, what are your benefits like? Have you ever been on strike? Specifically for California..bay area..

do you have similar benefits such as be part of the union for ten years and receive medical for life, etc??

thanks in advance

I worked for a union shop in the Bay area and enjoyed the best pay of my career (it was par with expected pay for my specialty, not bottom of the barrel as with other employers) and good benefits, but not health care for life. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend that everyone join unions. Previously I was a union member and was treated so badly that I left that line of work. It still depends on the individual place as to how well things go for workers, union members or not.
