April 23rd and 24th California Nurses Association Decertification Election is ON!

Scripps Encinitas Registered Nurses requested a vote to remove the California Nurses Association as their collective bargaining agent. The original vote date was delayed over a month because of CNA/NNOC interference.
Scripps Encinitas in San Diego California is an open shop and nurses there can choose to pay dues and support the union if they feel the union has met its commitment to them or if they feel the union has failed them, they can resign their membership without fear of termination.
As of last month less than 25 of greater than 600 RN's remained dues paying members of the union and that small group ratified the new union contract. The CNA/NNOC has been hard at work trying to persuade nurses to vote against the decertification. CNA/NNOC organizers have spent countless hours in and out of the hospital serving food, passing out expensive color brochures and distributing leaflets. No doubt spending way more money in the last few months than they could have possibly collected in dues from the few supporters they have.

Maybe if CNA spent less time trying to interfere in union elections of 8,000 hospital employees in Ohio or attempting to decertify nurses represented by other unions across the country they could focus on California RNs.

Spirits are high as the nurses of Scripps Encinitas vote to rid themselves of an ineffective union. The California Nurses Association has only divided a family instead of uniting nurses as the claim.

Doesn't add up.....

<H1>Encinitas Scripps nurses ratify contract

| Monday, March 31, 2008 7:50 PM PDT

ENCINITAS ---- Registered nurses at Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas have ratified a new two-year collective bargaining agreement with the hospital, officials said.

Under the terms of the agreement, which was ratified Thursday, Scripps registered nurses will receive pay increases of up to 20 percent over the two years of the agreement, as well as increased compensation for registered nurses who help train new nurses.

The contract could lead to improvements in patient care, according to a statement by the California Nurses Association and National Nurses Organization.

The hospital agreed to add employees specifically designated to assist with the lifting and handling of patients, and to all ensure that new technology will not replace professional clinical judgement made by registered nurses.

Only dues paying members of the union were allowed to vote on the contract presented in March. So, around 25 nurses "overwhelmingly approved" the contract the CNA presented.
All membership eligible nurses at Scripps Encinitas are allowed to vote in this decertification election.

Well I bet that the non-union nurses will be accepting the 20% increase in pay without complaint.

Scripps Health System in San Diego California has five hospitals total and several clinics. Because of California Nurses Association interference and poor contract negotiation, The Encinitas nurses were actually making less per hour than their counterparts at other Scripps facilities. Another fact is that in the previously mentioned CNA press release the union took credit for a lift team that was already in place at the hospital.

Now I have a question for you. Don't you think the other nurses at Scripps Encinitas deserve the same raise? if not, why not? Hospitals all over are in competition for quality nurses. Pay and benefits must be competitive to attract staff.

Nurses at Scripps Encinitas right now are voting to remove the California Nurses Association. If the union represented the nurses so well and the contract was so great, why is the CNA being shown their walking papers?

Default California Nurses Association Decertified
Scripps Encinitas Nurses Voted April 23rd and 24th in an NLRB supervised election.

The California Nurses Association has been Decertified and no longer represents
the nurses of Scripps Encinitas
It is expected that the California Nurses Association will contest the results of the election, disrespecting he voice of the nurses.

Scripps Encinitas RNs are more highly-paid than other Scripps RNs as a result of having had CNA representation.

On top of that, as a result of the most recent contract Encinitas RNs received higher percentage raises (4.5% - 6%) than did other Scripps RNs (4% - 6%).

Neither Scripps management nor Sherwood have any way of knowing how many RNs are members of CNA at Scripps Encinitas or how many RNs ratified the CNA contract.

There are not "greater than 600 RNs" at Scripps Encinitas. There are in truth about half that number.

Let's strive for a higher standard of accuracy from now on, shall we?

Correction: other Scripps RNs even lower raises (4% - 5%) as a result of not having CNA representation.
