I just finished in CA, and it was a two part exam--written was multiple choice and then there is a skills exam. You have to perform 5 skills unknown until that moment on your "resident". HTH

I did my CNA certification test in Florida and the first part was a written multiple choice test, which was really easy and focused mainly on resident rights, followed by a clinical portion where we were tested on five skills, handwashing, indirect care (safety, communication, privacy, etc.) as well as, three randomly selected skills such as bed baths, catheter care, transfers, and vitals signs. We had 30 minutes to complete all of the skills. Hope that helps and good luck with the class!

I took the CNA exam in Illinois, albeit a 3-4 years ago, and it was basic info in a multiple-choice format. Hope this helps.

The test isn't all that bad. I have to dress my "resident," who had hemiparalysis. I had to measure output and record it on a piece of paper and I had to weigh a patient and record that. At least in MI, after you pass the first part then you go and take a written test. The thing that made me most nervous was that nurse would just sat there and stared at me. Afterwards, though she was really friendly. Good luck to you!

Maybe I had a great teacher, but who know's. I thought the test's etc he gave us during class was 10 x's harder than the written exam for my state. That being said I scored 92% and didn't study. If you follow and listen well in class you should be fine. As far as the skill portion I feel I got lucky. 1 hand washing (Duh) Peri-care,hair care,Rom one shoulder, and transfer from bed to wc using gait belt. peri-care was kinda nerve racking but I had a good examiner.
