What kind of shoes do you wear?

What's your favourite brand/type of shoe to wear as a CNA?
I've always worn tennis shoes. I bought a pricey pair of Nike running shoes last year and after 5 hours of standing on my feet-- MY FEET ARE DEAD!!

Does anyone use inserts? Wondering if that might help..

I really love Dansko clogs. They run 80-100 dollars but mine lasted me for 4 years. I own 3 pairs. Your posture is much better and they have a little heel so I get some height. I also invested in MBT's they are very pricey but even better for your posture and back. However, my husband thinks they are but ugly. PM me for an online store I used with good prices. (I dont think I can list it on all nurses.)

Totally second the Dansko suggestion...they're extremely tough, supportive shoes. I know what you mean about Nikes-I like how they look, but I feel like my feet kind of sink into them and the cushioning doesn't feel so wonderful after a few hours. I wore my Danskos for a 16 hr. shift yesterday and my feet weren't sore at all :-)

Consider New Balance sneakers. And, also, if your feet are really killing you, and you have benefits, see a podiatrist and inquire about orthotics. Those and my New Balance make my feet feel like a dream!

I wear Crocs right now, and they are fine, but I'm ready to take the MBT plunge. I'm only waiting to see what my nursing school has for shoe requirements before placing my order. I like the white and pink ones, and those would be fine at work in the hospital, but if school will require all white, I'll have to rethink that style. They're expensive, so I can't justify two pair at this point.

I wear crocs and find they are very comfortable, and my knees and back haven't been so bad since wearing them.

I definitely love my Crocs. They are very comfy thru my whole shift and ridiculously lightweight. Also, they are certainly the easiest to clean!

But I'm still anxious to try the MTB's :-)

Dansko's are pricey but I had the same problem as you and they really help my feet and back feel a lot better at the end of the day. What you could do if you want to save some money is leave an extra pair of shoes in you locker and then half way through the day switch from your normal tennis shoes to crocs or some other type of shoe. changing the shoe really helps me avoid tired feet.
If you want to try insoles superfeet work great for many people, there are a couple different colors that each work with a different type of arch type so try on both the "blue" and "green" super feet to see which feels better.

i guess it depends on the requirements of the work you do. I tried crocs and love wearing them day to day but at work (fast pace er) i would wear blisters in the plantar surface from the friction. I used to be in the navy where we used new balance tennis shoes to march (so comfortable) so when i started having problems with feet legs and back i bought a 120$ of new balance sneakers reccommended by the guys at the store... ideal for long shifts on hard hospital floors not as light as running shoes but good arch support and still cushy. i also splurged on a machine called the isqueeze for after work... somedays its a godsend for calves and feet massage... good luck...
