I like doing something that I know truly makes a difference in the lives of others. I've worked jobs like retail before and always hated them, because at the end of the day, I felt they didn't matter.

I like taking care of people and treating them the way I'd want to be treated were I in their position.

What Yousoldtheworld pretty much sums it up for me also.

I work at a LTC and there is this one confused 90year old lady who can be frustrating a lot of time because she always yells and is difficult to work with. As a CNA it makes my day to slow down for a few minutes and do something fun like put a haloween sticker on her shirt or a flower in her hair and giver her some attention. She gets so excited and smiles so big that it cant help but make you day!

I think the best part is the laughs you get. I love how the residents come up with the weirdest, funniest things to say or do at least once a shift.

I find myself connecting with residents termed 'difficult' or obnoxious by other CNA's. Granted I'm still new but this one lady... I don't think she gets many visitors and is very much oriented and coherent. She CAN be difficult but to me it seems she's lonely and the only time she gets talked to is when someone is taking care of her. She is very hyper-focused on her butt and creams, etc to put on it and it takes awhile. But I find that if I talk to her about other things, she isn't nearly so crabby and we still get the stuff done. I guess I feel for the lonely folks, I know how that can be and try to spend more time with them.

I love the residents! They do say funny things sometimes, one lady said she are her pureed meat and it could have been pole cat (skunk) for you yankees! Another man said "ask me no questions and I tell you no lies, I got hit in the face with a blueberry pie. I asked him how is hip felt and he said fine, how is yours? Haha
