To be honest with you, every facility should! in my opinion, all faculty coming in contact with pt's should be tested for TB, Hep, AIDs...ect. But hey we all have rights. It is ridiculous...i am glad they test though...it is for the safety of everyone!

Up in Canada, you can't even take the health care aide course or nursing course without being tested for TB and being up to date on all other vaccines, including Hep B and influenza. I am currently in the process of finishing my two-step mantoux test and course of Hep B for my program. I think it's in the best interest of not only the pt, but of ourselves as well. It's a bit of a pain to get done, but worth it for sure.

In my state, it's required (by the state) of all healthcare facilities/agencies that all employees having direct contact with clients are tested as part of the employment process and annually. I didn't think there was anyone in healthcare that didn't test ...

I am on the west coast (Seattle) getting my CNA right now, and I am required to get the TB test. ?? Maybe they have recently changed it. I too think its a good idea. Better to be safe than sorry. It only cost me $25.

I had to get a TB test before taking my class, but I just went to MinuteClinic and it cost me $20 so no big deal.

Things are always changing. Just like when I applied to the Nursing program one of the requirements was a health statement showing you'd had all your shots etc. Well, now that I'm actually about to begin the program in a couple of months, they decided it wasn't enough just to say you'd had the chicken pox, you either had to be vaccinated, get a titer done, or both to prove it. When I went through the CNA program here in Nebraska, you had to have a TB test by the first day of class (most likely because of clinicals).

I got one in January for my CNA class & then in May when I got hired at my job, I had to take another one! I told them I'd already had it (and had the paper from my doctor's office & everything) but I still had to get it..at least it was free though. So that's a possibility you might run into...
