Stressed out

Hey all. I'm a CNA, working at a LTC facility for a few months. I've been reading through the threads here, and it has been very eye-opening, to say the least. A lot of the problems I've been having, and problems I thought were just at my facility, seem to be really common.

My concern is, I just can't handle the stress from this facility anymore. For awhile the other CNAs and I were very close-knit, but now it seems everyone's as burned out as me. I decided that I'm going to put in my notice that I'm quitting, even though I don't have another job lined up. (I want to go into home-health or assisted living, and while I've applied to some places, I haven't heard back yet.)

I would have to scale my hours back drastically for summer classes and nursing school anyway, so it's not a big loss if I don't have a job for awhile. Am I crazy? Should I try to stick it out for a few more weeks until I have a solid offer, or just go?

Honestly I would make sure you have a job lined up first... Unless you have other means such as family to fall back on in case you don't find a job right away.

I'm a nursing student, but I still work in admin. We put a job offer out for a minimum wage warehouse worker, and I was getting applications from people who have bachelor degrees from major universities. It was real eye opening to how bad the unemployment rate is right now for certain folks. Granted I do live on the west coast though, and we have been hit really hard.

What I'm saying is you can guarantee that you will find a job as soon as you would like. I do wish you the best of luck though!!! Just keep applying, and try and stick it out a little longer. You obviously are a strong hard working person if your a CNA, and nursing student. Just remind yourself that.

Thanks. Money isn't too much of an issue, as I live with family and have enough saved up for my first year of school.

I hear ya out on being stressed out working as a CNA. Let me tell u!! I am a part time CNA and its a extremely difficult and stressful job. CNA's deserve a metal doing what they do. Seriously! I understand that its tough; At first I worked 2 jobs and went to school full time getting all my basic courses out of the way. After those basic courses are done u start to go into higher credit courses which are alot more time consuming. I would cut ur hours from work or go per diem while going to college for nursing. U want ur grades to be the best; U also want to understand the material and not just memorize it. Keep ur head up and good Luck !!! Keep up your hard work and never loose that BIG HEART!!!!!

Personally I wouldn't quit, I'd just cut my hours back. It's good to have a job- you never know what might happen.

I just cut back to 4 days a week because I was starting to feel kinda burned out. I know I can afford it, and getting straight-up burned out for real is something I definitely want to avoid.

Maybe you could just cut back to one or two shifts a week and then it would not be so consuming in your life. Then keep looking for another job. Hang in there... you'll get through this.

Thanks, everyone. I think I will just cut my hours down for now.
