Starting CNA Class

I was nervous when I started my CNA class last fall too, but I actually found class to be fun! It's so cool to finally be able to jump in and start doing all the hands-on stuff. Good luck

I'm in the same boat, I just got hired at a nursing home that's going to give me CNA training. I start at the end of August. I'm so excited. I already have most of my prereq's done and I'm waiting to hear back from some of the schools that I applied to but this will definitly help prepare me for what's ahead.

Hi - I just got home from taking my Ct State CNA exam - and I passed!! YAY for me!!! I too was really scared when I first started the course. I hadn't been in school for 30 years and didn't have the confidence that I could do it. But I took it one class at a time and ended with a 98 average. Some of the things that helped for me were: sitting in the front of the class. Not everyone in the class put out the money to be there and those that didn't sat in back and talked. I read the chapters before and after the class to really "cement" it in my mind. I used flash cards all throughout the course. I bought my own stethoscope (allheart.com - $40) and a Blood pressure cuff (Walmart, $10) and practiced all the time.
I did everything I could before the state exam, so that if I didn't pass at least I knew I tried everything. But it was easier than I thought and even though I was really nervous for it, I did just fine.

It was for me. My instructor wrote me up as being 'tentative' (and some other adjectives I can't recall) after doing clinical. No problem with classwork, but I was afraid of hurting people, especially rolling them over in an occupied bed. I was slow to do transfers well too.

I got over it. A month on the job and I was pushing and shoving with the best of them.

Hi! I am new in this site and want to pursue another course after my hubby will graduate from his masters degree.I just want to ask how long this CNA course will take? Is this course hard? It's been 8 years now that I'm out of school and my work before is more about numerics.Hope you will help me about this.Thanks

Hi! I just finished my cna course a week ago! I, too, went back to school after having been out of school for many years - many more than 8! The program I took here in Ct lasted 7 weeks and was "accelerated." We had class 3-4 times a week, including clinicals. It was very fast paced and wasn't taught well, so I had to do alot of studying at home. Guess it paid off as I was one of 3 who had the top class score! Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.So, you only took 7 months in CNA.That's so fast. Did you take a board exam with this to get your license or only a certificate?

No, seven WEEKS. Yes, we did our Ct state test for our license on the last day of class.
