Per diem question

I am looking at a per diem CNA position at a local hospital and I have some questions about y'alls experience with per diem work...

Do hospitals usually look for on-call anytime-anywhere per diem workers or have you found that they are willing to work with someone who can only cover 3-4 days a week?

I will be in school a few days a week in the spring - I'd like to be sure that there would be no conflict. I am only used to working in SNF/LTC so I have little to no experience with how hospitals manage this.

Thanks!

Your best bet is just to let your job know that you are in school. They should be more than willing to accomodate you if not find someplace that does. I've never had a problem with my job getting in the way of school. Also I've never tried to overwork so that I couldn't concentrate on school.

You have two choices you could go Per Diem on a specific unit or join the float pool. I would advise you to join the float pool because it would give you the greatest experience in acute care. I used to be part of the float pool and I would go to Tele, ICU, Geriatrics, Oncology. It is a really good experience. Most hospitals just require you to work maybe once every two weeks or something along those lines. Be upfront and tell them what kind of hours your looking for. Good Luck
