I'm still in class (about 1 week away from clinicals), so I haven't taken the tests yet.

Just curious, are you testing for home-health aide and CNA? A total of eight skills are required for the combo and only five (total) for CNA (according to my manual from the OK Dept. of Career & Technology Education).

Anyway, good luck! Be sure to post your experience. I'm curious to know what the Oklahoma skills test is actually like before I have to take the plunge myself.

yes, there are five skills that you will know what they are and then they will choose an additional three more skills that you will not know about until the test day. A total of eight all together. I will be taking the test at Tulsa Tech. I am testing for the home health aid and cna.
Like I said before, I haven't taken the test yet, but I'm just going by what my paper says and what my instructors have told us to prepare for on testing day. If it turns out to be less, I'm happy!!!! Good luck on your clinicals. Are you doing them both at a hospital and a nursing home?? That's what we did. Well, enjoy the rest of yur class.

My school has a contract with a nursing home only. The hospitals near where I live won't let student NAs do much more than toileting assistance.

Once again, good luck. I'll be rooting for you!

Although I took the test 2 years ago, I can give you the same advice I was given - when completing a skill, talk your way through it. For instance, when you are giving a bed bath it is a "mock bath" so you would tell how you prepared the water, making sure it wasn't too hot, the actions you would use while bathing (efflourage when washing the back to promote circulation and also helps with relaxation - they love it when you mention that!), when you would change the water, why you are doing things, etc. Even if you are thinking outloud they don't care as long as you can talk your way to the right answer. You'll do fine!

Well, an update--- I passed. It wasn't as scary as I thought. The examiner occasionally would hint or ask me a question about a particular step and it helped me to remember everything. Lana was right in the previous post about just talking through everything that your doing. I got positioning pt on the side, dental care, and transporting a pt to the wheelchair as my three unknowns. Well, off to NS next month! Good luck to you Zooz!!!

Hello,
Did you take the course at OSU OKC? I am planning on taking it in a few months. Can you tell me how it was?
