Nothing in particular tonight, but if someone would like a professional learning environment and would like to get their money's worth($1400!) for the endurance of their CNA class, they should run FAR away from this High School.

I did hear however, that Manhattan Institute was great. Also, if you live in Queens, York College has a CNA Program as well as a Patient Care Tech upgrade option.

Just dropping a note to wish all of you well with your searches and career goals. I also hope that this recession does not last for a long time.

I don't have a great impression of Allen school either. They were very aggresive with me...the constant calls, letters, etc. I originally called around 5 years ago to inquire about LPN courses and they tried to dissuade me by saying "Why should you become an LPN when you can become a Medical Assistant?" And, then, the calls kept coming for months. In addition, the building where they held their classes out here in Queens was a dump.

Why should you become an LPN when you can become a Medical Assistant? I hate to generalize but there is a part of me that really hates vocational schools. Some of them really have a lot of nerve.

I must be having the luck of the Irish today! I got a call from the place I interviewed last week and they want me to come in for orientation!! (no talk of pay... is this normal? I interviewed with the DON who is on vacation this week... and don't know who I talked to today about orientation... but it is just on call work, so I'll talk whatever right now) then... I got a few more calls and have 3 more interviews set up this week!!! One is through an agency and pays very little, but I figured I'd go anyway... the other is a bit better pay and has a set schedule so that sounds promising....

I called the Manhattan Institute today and they told me that their program is $1199!! Did they raise their prices?! That's a bit expensive but it's the only one that can fit into my schedule.
I'll be going to the the Mandl School of allied health next week to get info on their rates. But it is so annoying that they won't tell me their prices over the phone! I don't like schools like that 'cause they tend to be very aggressive.
Wish someone here had info on that school.....

I'm not sure that they raised the prices. I hear it's a great institution, though. My advice would be to weigh out your options and definitely visit any institution you are considering in person (sit in or watch a class) before you sign up to see if the vibe is right for you and whether you could see yourself there.

I have never heard anything about the other school. Usually, when schools aren't upfront about their prices, there should be a red flag. Although my views on the Allen School have slightly changed, the fact still remains that the school is expensive, which is why they weren't upfront with their prices.
