To North Carolina From Vermont

by berly57

Hi all -- I'm going to post this under the NC forum also, but wanted to see if I could get a definitive answer on a question. I am currently CNA in LTC facility here in Vermont -- have been since October last year. Will be moving to NC this year sometime. I got on the BON site but am still confused (a little bit slow here, I think). I know there is no reciprocity w/NC. Can I test out of CNA I in NC and then take a course for CNA II. I'm also a little confused on difference between the two. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. FYI I had planned on maybe moving to New Bern area but think now I will move to Raleigh (where my daughter is) as there looks like there may be more opportunities and maybe better pay. Thank you.

As far as I know (a cna in NC and prenursing student ), you can challenge the exam but if you don't pass in two tries you have to go back and take a NA 1 course. The skills are all available on the testing site but I would go and buy a textbook to review for the written because NC like other states differs in its scope of practice for a CNA. NA2 is around 170 or so hours and is good if you want to do wound care or work in an ER. As far as I know you can work with ivs more ect. But as I've found out with the current job market, NA2s aren't making that much more an hour any more because many nursing students are taking the pos Good luck and keep us posted

I tossed mine out, (lol, it was fun )but I'd check with your local college book store to see which one their program uses.

Yes you can challenge the test. You will have to contact the board of nursing or either go to pearsonvue.com. It may have information that can be helpful. The cna 2 has more a indepth job description.
