I can't offer personal advice, but there is some great advice posted on this forum already. One thread that sticks out in my mind is just a couple of posts down called Getting a Hospital Job. ( http://allnurses.com/cna-nursing-ass...ob-357339.html

The 4th or 5th reply (by cjcsoon2brn) is really helpful.

Wow. Maybe it's different in your area, but around me, hospitals and facilities would love to hire CNA's. Most of the time they hire people that aren't even certified because there is such a need. Good luck, I hope you find work.

All of us got jobs without experience. As another poster mentioned, you may want to search back into past topics that deal with finding a job.

There are all kinds of reasons for not getting that first job --- cannot tell what may be applicable to you.

First, hiring right now is slow and should pick up after the holidays. Even with advertised jobs, too many people (HR and nurses) taking time off right now and don't want to start hiring process.

Do you have a well written resume? I know, no experience, but resume, still needs to be formatted well, 100% proper spelling and grammar.

Same thing with job applications --- they need to be neat, easy to read, proper grammar and spelling. You don't get hired on a resume, but you can certainly get rejected for showing that you have no language skills.

Have you applied everywhere? Go around to all LTC, hospitals, assisted living and fill out an app (fill it out nicely).
Are you on online job boards looking for advertised jobs?

Make sure your appearance is good. Improper dress, too much makeup and piercings, poor interviewing technique, all will keep your foot out of the door.

Where do you live? Where I am ( Orlando ) no jobs anywhere. None of the ltcs are hiring hospitals not really and even regular jobs ( Walmart) in my area have a hiring freeze. Its crazy. One lady I work with had to get a part time job at kfc for now because of the cut of hours and lack of anything out there.

Yeah, as you can see from these replies, the demand for CNAs varies DRASTICALLY by region. Here in my area of Indiana, it's pretty easy to get a job at a nursing home, even with no experience. Hospitals, however, are harder to get into.

No matter where you are, your best course of action is to be persistent. Apply everywhere that hires CNAs. Call to check on your applications regularly. If possible, turn in your applications in person to HR, not the person at the front desk. Show enthusiasm and eventually it'll pay off.

I'm in the Pittsburgh metro region. CNA's/PCT's for hospitals, LTC, and even home health are in very high demand here. I worked as one for 2 years while I was in nursing school, and I was never even certified. I had two different jobs in the hospital setting.
