How did you start after CNA class?

Hey Guys!I was wondering what you did after completing your CNA class, before you took your test. Did you get a job as a CNA and that facilty paid for your test(boards)?(Whoa the cost has gone up here in VA)Or did you pay for it yourself?

here in IL you can find free training programs but the state test is always paid out of your own pocket, good luck though. Go on your state website under health and see what kind of aid might be available

good luck

Paid it myself. But, I figured that when I started class. The class I took cost about $600 (tuition, books, fees) at local community college, so adding the cost of the state test wasn't much. But I knew all of this going in. I have not heard of anyone paying for the test, but that doesn't mean it's never done. But I sure would not think that is the norm. After all, you're not certified until you pass it....

I don't think any facility pay for your test, just your training. Wouldn't hurt to look into though.

I took my CNA class through a nursing home because they offered if you took the class they would pay for it and you had a job after passing the boards. They also paid for the boards also. So the calls was free if you gave them 1 year. So i worked there for 1 year and then started working at a hospital which I have been there over 5 years. In the hospital I learned alot of things that I didn't in the nursing home.

In CA we pay for our own test... about $90.00. How much is it in VA? I'm just curious because it from your post it sounds like it's much more than that!

THere were a few people in my class last year who got hired by facilities that paid for their state exams. So it does happen. I didn't start looking until now but took my state test on my own. I think it was only $60 or so in NM.

Promissor administers the CNA Test where I reside (Kenosha,WI) and it costs $100. This fee is not included in the general cost of the class, however.

On another note, I am super-excited....My class starts Monday after next, and I've begun to volunteer at a local hospital!

The cost of the test was worked in to the fee for the class. I took my CNA class at the local community college and there was an extra fee in addition to the tuition that paid for the test amongst other things.

I had applied to a LTCF before taking my tests and they asked if I needed them to pay for it. My county job store was paying for it and I told her. She had the gall to say, well if you fail, i'll pay for your next one. LOL

I went through one of those one stop career centers, they paid for tuition, uniform, pb cuff, stet, shoes and, yes, the state exams. All I need to do to repay is to show that I can get a job and keep it. They are also paying for my LPN course which starts next June. They suggested I go take the CNA class in the meantime.
