hospital jobs for cna's i n texas

Hello All;I'm new to the fourm and has gotten a lot of my questions answered already just by browsing, thanks. Now I have a question that I have not ran across yet on the site,I live in the DFW area(arlington) to be exact, have been laid off from my job since oct,08 drawing unemployment and am taking a CNA class that I'm paying for out of pocket,I was not aware that TWC has a career training program and would have piad for my training; I'm 2 weeks into my CNA schooling and the plan was to hire on at a hospital once I finish school the last day is may 6th,09 and state is may 23rd & 24th;I wanted to hire on and transition to LVN while I work.

Has anyone ever gone thru the training program in texas thru TWC is it a good idea? they also offer RN classes but I want to take it slow CNA,LVN,then RN. Do I tell them that I have already taken the CNA classes or do I just sign up for LVN when I'm done?I don't want to be cut off my unemployment until I have been trained and know that I have the skills to find a job. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking about doing what you're doing. I lost my job in Nov'08. I registered with TWC for the training program.

You do not want to tell them that you're in school because you will not be able to collect unemployment. Once you become a CNA and employed you can attend LVN school. Or if you don't find a job when you're done CNA school just sign up for LVN school with one of the approved schools. It may take a while to get into the school but they will pay. NCTC has a waiting list, however I believe the only pre-req you need to be accepted into the LVN program is Phys & Anatomy. You can do that while waiting to start the program in August. The program is for a year.

So finish the CNA, if you don't have a job once you're done. Attend LVN school and have unemployment pay for you to become a LVN. I hope this helps

Thanks for your input, I have another question...when I finish CNA and let's say get a job in a hospital which is where I really want to work I feel I will have more options for cross training,I've been told that some hospitals have training programs and they will pay also if you sign an agreement to work for them after graduation; Do you know anyone that has done this before? and how did it work out for them.Thank you and good luck with all of your endeavors.

Yes, certainly. Check out this thread. I got some information from another member. Where are you getting your certification if you don't mind me asking? How much did you pay for the program and how long is it? Do they offer a job placement program?

I called the Fort Worth Rehab center and they will offer you employment and pay for the CNA program. I may go tha route. Fort Worth is kind of far for me though. You can also allow TWC to pay for your schooling. Just go to one of their orientations and you will get more info

I'm attending Dunbar High School's nite classes in fort worth, the school is located 5700 Ramey,it's a 10 week course, and the cost was $180.00 which covered the cost of the books and state testing fee which will be held at a nursing facility...as far as job placement they don't gurantee but what we were told by our instructor the nursing facility where we will take clinicals will hire a lot of us and they also give you guidence, indirectly which is what we were told by TWC also.
