Fail my CNA Class

after 3 months of training for my CNA i failed the clinical part of the exam; meaning i failed the entire class.

i am going to school for my lpn also (CNA not required). i just wanted a feel of how nursing is.
i feel really down because cna is basic patient care and every little thing counts. im worried if and when i go into the lpn program i will mess up and make a little mistake and it will ruin my chances of becoming a nurse.
Now sadly i am having doubts about nursing.

i know that i want to stay in the health care field but i don't know what i want to do now. maybe radiologic tech.
they will probably offer it again next quarter (CNA) but i don't know if i want to take it again or just continue with my lpn. i am 1 quarter away from starting it.

I don't understand was it the end of class exam or state exam? If you failed the state exam you can retry again in every state, I think.

I've never heard of a cna program that had a final exam that was pass or fail. Maybe you can talk to the instructor? Maybe reenroll in the next class.
I would not in anyway worry about how this will affect your medical career, the clinicals can be tough, don't give up on it. If the medical field were easy everyone would do it, all of us second guess ourselves and feel like its time to give up. Just remember there are patients out there who need you. God Bless

I'm so sorry to hear you didn't make it. We need every cna we can get. Do you mind if I ask what your weak points are? In our school we have to be cna certified to be in the program. The only reason is because the program doesn't provide time for teaching bed baths and bed making. There are some students who do not work as a cna and they do just fine.
Once you know what you had trouble with, you can concentrate on that. Try not to get down on yourself. Don't 2nd guess your decision to go into nursing based on this. It's not a requirement and oftentimes when you do it again (say in ns school), it'll come together. Good luck!

i am gonna be starting oct 1 and hope i dont fail, but i'd say retake it and prove a point to yourself, i'm an emt and people i went to class with a year and a half ago are in class still attempting to pass the state test, dont give up YOU CAN DO IT!

I think failing your CNA exam should give you some extra inscentive for your LPN class and push you harder! I am a CNA and have to admit the final exams for CNA were a bit tricky and a lot of the stuff i learned in the class was useless information to what REALLY happens in hospitals and LTC.
In my cna class they tried to teach us how to make a bed in like 30 steps!!! they made it out to be a 20 minute process when in the jobs reality it only takes less than 5 minutes!!!

I'm sorry you didn't pass, please don't give up. If the CNA isn't a requirement, then go for the LPN, you can do it! You know what to expect now, and the great thing about nursing is there are so many options.

Try again, but practice the skills. You're not the only one who struggled with the clinicals. But the clinical portion of the class IS skills. They are procedures you can learn to do through practice. Our CNA instructor constantly railed on the class for not practicing. Basically, you only did a skill once or twice in class --- not enough to actually learn it. Many of us found others in the class to practice with and others, as myself, have a spouse who we could practice doing occupied bed, BP, transfering, ROM, etc.

We don't know you, so we can't be sure being a CNA is really for you. But if it's simply a matter of learning some skills you could not do well enough on to pass the clinicals, that can be remedied with practice.

Dont give up! I know how you feel to have failed, however mine was state skills. I wouldnt change your future plans because of a bump in the path. Good luck!
