CNA Training in Pittsburgh

I posted this in the Pennsylania forum, but I didn't get any responses so I'll post it here. My situation is this: I want to be a CNA, but I need to figure out the best way to go about it. CCAC offers a CNA training course, which is a little over $700. UPMC offers a free nursing assistant, but I think you're required to work a year. If you leave early, the free training turns into a loan you have to pay back. Has anyone had any experience with this? Am I right about the UPMC nursing assistant training? Are there any CNA's in Pittsburgh that can share their experience? Anyone from other locations going through something similiar? Thanks.

Hi, I've been a PCT (like a CNA but with a little more responsibility) in the 'burgh here for going on two years. Don't waste your money at CCAC. I strongly reccommend applying at one of the UPMC hospitals in the area (ie Presby, Shadyside, Passavant, etc). They will provide on the job training for you to be a "PCT" and you'll make decent money starting out (more than what area nursing homes would have started me at). There's no penalty for leaving the hospital early, however you do have to stay in your position for a year if you wish to transfer within UPMC. Otherwise, get your training and experience and move on.
