CNA QUESTIONS, please help!

by cheizy

Hi all! I was wondering during our clinical part of a cna class, do we get to choose our facility? or is that pre-decided for us already?

Also, i'm kind of concerned because my sisters wedding is a month/2months away, and my CNA program starts in a week or so, it's 8 weeks long. I was wondering when clinicals are? are they usually the weekends etc. or do we get to pick the days/times as long as we finish the required amt. of hours needed for the program? Of course if it overlaps my sis's wedding i'm going to take it off, but I was wondering will I be behind from everyone if I take a day/two days off? I'm sorry, I just don't know how this whole thing works lol, I literally just applied yesterday LOL. Thanks everyone!

I took my CNA classes at an LTC facility so I did not get to choose where I did my clinicals. I think that if you go through a community college you can choose between a couple of facilities that your school offers.

About the clinicals, I didn't get to do clinicals until the very last week of my program. They did all the lectures in the first 5 weeks and then the last week I had clinicals Mon-Fri.

You might want to ask your program director, though. It can be different for you.

Hope this helped a bit!

We recently had students at our LTC facility. A few of the students said that the classes were three nights per week for nine weeks then clinicals at a LTC three nights per week for three weeks. Did not get to choose the LTC. If a student missed any night, she/he was out of the program.

When your classes are depends on your school selection.
My classes were all on Saturdays. The last 2 weeks were at clinicals and it was were the school selected. I think based on insurance and liability purposes you can't pick wherever you want to go. If you are providing patient care and something happens, it needs to be covered. I didn't say that right, I hope you what I meant tho.

Hi, hope everthing is well. If you haven't use your credit, than it will be fine. The most important one for me was Alzeimers disease, which I missed. And this did not effect my hours since I never miss any off my classes. But, either or some nursing homes will provide you free of charge and let you take the classes you missed. Which this is what I will do.You can also choose your facility. Hope this answer your question.

Call your school or place you are taking your class and ask to talk to the instructor.
They can give you a number, or the instructor can call you back. The class regulations and clinical requirements vary from state to state. I'm an instructor and this happens frequently. I just want to know that the students are committed and care about being the best possible caregiver. The skills we teach are very important. And....yes I was a CNA before becoming a nurse, and I always "gave it my best"....and I was in my 40's then. Good luck from Idaho.
