CNA to Phlebotomist to Med Aide......

i plan on starting my phlebotomy course on the 28th this month and i cant wait! well i want to work as a phlebotomist full time and work prn cna at my current facility, because i plan to take the med aide course in jan'10. then i want to get a job as a med aide/cna till i am able to get into a nursing progam and to get to my goal of eventually become an LVN and then RN. i was just wondering if anyone else has done this, and was school easier because of it?? is it possible to get a job that i would be able to do all three skills, without being an actual nurse??

Also another question, are phlebotomist shown how to put an iv?? i dont think so, but i just wondered

Yes its possible and its a good idea. It increases your job prospects and the odds that you'll get a job in a hosp. If your state has it, you might want to do CNA2 or NA2 which is about a three month course. Around here they work in ERs. In NC, NA2s can work with ivs but not start them. Good luck

Just make sure you remember that you if you get your med aide certification. While you are working as a med aide you can not work as a cna. Say like you are passing meds. If a cna asks you to help her do something, you are not suppose to help her. I took the med aide class last year and like a dummy never took the test. I may go back and take it again since it only takes like five days. Some facilities in north carolina want you to be a med tech which is not the same as a med aide. I am part time at a nursing home and when they hired me they had hired this girl who was a med aide but they were looking for a med aide. So they ended up having to fire her before she even started working.

Well a Med Aide is a nurse aide who has received additional training in order to be licensed by the state to pass meds. They can only be employed by LTC facilities and not every state has them.

Also I have to disagree that med aide cannot do CNA work while on shift as the med aide. In my facility so long as their med cart is secure our med aide's can and do assist if they are needed.
