There is no average. If you look on the forum, past questions for the last 6 months, you'll see this question asked all the time. It depends on your general region, state, if rural or city, and the demand. I've seen started pay rates around $7.00 up to around $12.

In the Chicago area, it's around $8 -$9 to start. Downstate Illinois, it's less. Some of the far western and eastern states are significantly higher, but their cost-of-living is much higher.

Someone may be able to answer if you give your city/state.

Also, as a generalization, assisted living pays the least, LTC next, hospital the highest, and home health towards the lower end (again, as a generalization).

By the way, the 'standard' response for desired rate of pay is "open". The LTC sets the rates according to their schedule, not yours.......

Sorry -- can't help you with NC. I can't even guess at wage rates in that state. Also, don't forget, as many young people do, your benes. Good insurance can mean a lot to you.

I am from eastern N.C. near the Rocky Mount area & for this area the average pay is
$ 8.00 per hr. for rest homes & home health, and $8.45 per hr. for the hospital. In home health if you work with a CAPS, or veteran pt. you will make more per hour. ~~ For a CAPS pt. it is $8.40 & for a veteran the rate is $9.00 .

I am thinking maybe in the bigger areas such as Charlotte, Raleigh, Durham area perhaps it pays a bit more but I am not sure.

In ohio, with zero experience, I started at $9/hr, but after the shift differential and Weekend differential I actually make almost $12/hr. I'm weekends only, so thats nice. =o)

Im in Boston, MA (cape cod area), I made $10.50/hr 11 years ago as a nurses aide right out of school...today starting pay here is around $14-15/hr, but the cost of living is way out of control here!
